This is nice to see. My mom and dad did a two month tour of the USA when they retired. My mom kept a diary which included gasoline, meal, motel prices during the trip. She also kept weather infor and reviews of places they visited.

This reminds me of when I was a child I asked my mother if they put candles on their Christmas tree when she was a girl. She was born in 1930, not 1830. LOL. Yes, we had color, and lots of it in the '70s. Bright oranges and yellows were all the rave then.

I remember those well. Technically they were 200 seconds (50 ft) long which sounds terrifying but of course you can easily tell a story in that time. In 1979 I reckon they'd have been eating Pot Noodle or Vesta Curry with Angel Delight for afters.

I love watching you both and your adventures on the canals! I am hoping to recreate a historical canal journey for my 40th in a few years time with my family. My dear grandad who passed way in 2014 always used to take my gran, uncle,mum my two sisters and me on canal boat hols around Ashby when i was a small child in late 1980s/90s. I want to do our trip in his memory..also to persuade my hubby to consider us getting a boat so we can have an adventure while we are still able to do so! love to you both, alice and munchy xxx

Wow! the evening light in your video was amazing, it's too bad you are heading into the sun and not out of it because navigation would be a lot easier with the sun behind you and not blinding you. As for things changing, I totally understand, I am on holiday in Florida right now and the town I have been visiting for 25 years doesn't look much like it did 25 years ago. Things change, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. Good luck with finding matching moorings over the next week, I hope they are all where you expect them to be.

Wonderfully done - and great scenery. I love the use of Google Maps - and black and white. And yes, I remember the 70s ... and the 60s ... sigh On the "not moving", in 1979 I was at Uni and occasionally doing some sailing on the Brisbane River where, one day with a light wind when I was sailing close to the bank (at about 1/4 of a knot) to dodge the current, I ran aground 1 1/2 seconds after a seagull swimming around in front of me suddenly stood up :)

Have done the Four Counties ring twice in hire boats. Both times we managed it in a week. First time there were 8 of us though, so made the locks quite easy :)

Our son was born in 1979, so I can relate to the time. Monochrome was long gone in the movie world. We have 8mm colour movies taken when we were children and I was definitely shooting 35mm colour in 1979 although I didn’t do movies, probably because I was put of them as a child!

Were you there? Don't be daft. I was (20 years old by then). You two are in your twenties/thirties, so no way. Not even a twinkle in someone's eye. Wormleighton, Fenny Compton? Yup, I was around on the canals at that time, mostly in that area as I lived by the Stockton locks and we would rent a boat from the Napton Narrowboats yard. Been years since I was on a narrowboat. No, make that decades. White T-shirt, flared Wrangler jeans, beard, black Adidas trainers with the 3 white stripes. Life was so simple. Small boat (maybe 50 foot) with a Lister engine.

When we moor up for a longer time we usually shut them in the boat for their naps and supervise them morning and evening so they should be ok. We like to keep track of them.

There is no possibility that either of you "remember" 1979. You have to have been alive for that. Nor could you "remember" the 1980's; certainly not the first part. I do love seeing the blue sky. I live in California sierras and we haven't seen the sky in two months (smoke). This happens every year but usually not this early. So, thank you for showing the sky. Can't wait to see if you can keep up with the schedule. Why black and white? Our family films were over saturated with colour usually leaning toward orange. Maybe I just remember the 70's too well. Orange furniture, orange shag carpet, orange everything...okay I see why black and white. Much better choice, carry on, ladies.
