Giving a starter motor a thump with a hammer is a tried and tested method of fixing them - I've been driving for over 40 years, and have had to resort to that quick fix on many an occasion. Get a mechanic to look at it rather than replace it, as a lot of the time it just needs a bit of fettling. I do hope you are successful in getting another dog - one from a rescue centre is a brilliant idea. One tip I would say in choosing a dog is getting the dog that chooses you. Sounds weird I know, but believe me it seems to work. We had a big standard poodle that we bought from a breeder many years ago (we got to see both the mum and the dad). We had a choice to make between 3 adorable puppies, but I told my wife to hold off making a choice until we'd been around them for a few minutes. Sure enough, one of the puppies came and had look at my wife's handbag, which was on the floor next to her seat, and started having a good rummage around in it. That was the dog I chose and it was the best choice I have ever made. He died over 4 years ago and I still miss him.

Heidi hi. Heidi ho.!! Loving your channel. Yeah I know. I virtually say the same thing each week. But thank you again for sharing. During the time I was a salt water liveaboard, I acquired a fox terrier. He was an example of "Eats anything. Loves Children." During the 11yrs I had him, he kept me sane after my divorce. I wanted a breed that was obedient, reasonably small and definitely not a lap dog. I guess you'll know that the right breed for you, is the right breed for you. Good luck with the search. @@TheNarrowboatPirate We did indeed - they went camping with us since they were puppies and they absolutely loved doing that. It helped as well that we lived just a 10 minute walk from the coast, so they could run around on beaches to their heart's content - the back seat of our car at the time was completely ruined due to all the sand and seawater that they dumped in the car, not that I cared about that. My wife was very fond of shopping in charity shops, so I was left with the two dogs outside on lots of occasions. What used to grind my wife's gears a bit was that when she finally emerged from the shop, there was always a woman talking to me about the dogs! The standard poodle (Jake) was as handsome as hell and his little Shi'Tzu buddy (Ellwood) was the friendliest little dog ever towards humans, so no wonder people stopped and talked.

Nice to see you working the festival. Tough luck breaking the hammer last week, it would of been helpful to give the starter selinoid a couple of light taps with the hammer. The selinoids bushings get stuck and the sprocket won't move forward to engage with the flywheel. Anything that you could use to tap the selinoid would have worked. A piece of wood a hand sized rock or a wrench would be better than nothing in the future. Good luck with the boat 🚢 👍

Great video, good to see Jackie again and remembering little Puddin too. We adopted a rescue half pug/ half mystery a few years ago, he was so used to being whacked that even now he cringes if there’s a noise. Absolutely my favourite vid so far. I have had as many rescue dogs and cats as I have dodgy starter motors and the hammer solution brought back so many memories. Percussive Maintenance is a highly developed skill which you, Heidi, should learn. It also works with TVs. My empathetic personality came to the fore, so I had an empathetic Jura lubricant whisky while you enjoyed your rum. Best of luck finding a doggy companion.

Weather Weather ! They are calling for a wide spread of frost tonight. I'll need to protect my plants . My elevation is a little over 1000 meters, so hopefully, the frost will settle down in the valleys and stay off the Mooresville range. After tonight, it looks like good weather till fall . Do you ever try and grow veggies on your boat it looks like you could have a nice container garden.

Re the starter motor needing the persuasion of a hammer tap sometimes .It is probably the motor brushes sticking due to moisture and carbon dust making then stick in the brush holder and not contacting the commutator of the motor. You may need new brushes and holders and the commutator cleaned , not a huge job or that expensive and a new starter motor may not be necessary. I hope that's the case ....good luck. luv X

Yep you’ve got a bad spot on the starter motor . When it stops on that spot it won’t get turning. Now you know the hammer trick . It doesn’t always work but it did that time thankfully huh…👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

👍👌👏 What a great video! A lot of traders with interesting products can be seen. I absolutely love, adore and admire that you always carry a smile (or let me better say: a cheeky grin). You seem to be in a good mood very often (even without drinking rum). Congrats for being such a positive person. 2) As soon as your engine didn't start I shouted to the screen: Give the starter colenoid a light whack with a hammer (even if it is one without a handle). It's an old trick and sometimes it even works for years. It would nevertheless be a good idea to have a substitute respectively second starter motor onboard. It's quite simple to change them out (even after having had several drinks). Of course you must consider to rename yourself while doing mechanic stuff: It should then be "rum wrench"! 😁 ;-) Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all involved life forms (humans and dogs).
