Hello Heidi - greetings from Poland. I've returned to the back catalogue, leaving Middlewich and cruising to the Anderton Boat Lift. Arrived at Rudheath. The new rope work is fantastic and adds some panash to the bow. After a quick wash and brush up and "Flow Job" playing as we go, down the lift onto the Weaver. Great to see the Daniel Adamson again. A fantastic video. Great commentary and camera work. Stay safe please

A funny thing happened this week, my mate was also having her Bush trimmed by 3 guys with a chainsaw. I told her not to let it get so out of control in the future , I told her “go look at Heidi’s vlog, her bush is out of control too” what a coincidence . CRT needs a stiff talking to. It's going to get really hot in narrowboat in the next day. Soak a tea towell, roll it up and put it in the freezer. If it gets too hot, unroll it and lay it on your stomach. Or soak a sheet and sleep under it. And drink plenty of water. Pass it on.

A trick I learned many years ago when I occasionally skippered the scouts' narrowboat. Instead of struggling to pull the boat to the bank, do what you do as far as trying to pull using the centre line (spring line?) Tie it off to a bollard or a firm pin. Slack the stern line as you drive ahead, very gently of course. As the line tightens it will pull you into the bank. Leave the engine pushing a little and tie another line or the bow line. Jobs done. Little scouts couldn't pull a boat in against a strong wind. Saved the proverbial bacon several times. Fun episode again. I grinned all the way through. The boat at the bottom of the lift looked interesting. I would love to hear you comments on it. Cheers.

I may need more explanation on that if you can …… so what happened was, I moored up fine, but by the time I stood off with my centre rope, the wind was blowing it so hard, that I didn’t even get time to do a couple of wraps round the bollard and my front was half way across the cut 😂😂 …. I can’t then go back to the stern to sort it out or so you know a better way? I could only do this on bollards though as when single handing, by the time I’ve pulled in and knock a pin in my boat would be across the cut in strong winds again - help 😂😂

@@TheNarrowboatPirate I never used this trick in as strong a wind as you must have been. If you can hold the boat by the centre line enough to use the pin or a bollard don't try to pull the boat in. As you move forwards, the boat will swing in like a pendulum on the spring line towards the bank. Keep the engine driving enough to hold against the bank and get the bow line in place. It's hard to explain. It's much easier with a crew member.

Yes I’ve done the Falkirk and kelpies and Edinburgh to Glasgow but did it on hire boats with fellow boaters for my mates 50th …. Unfortunately the canals in Scotland don’t link so I won’t be able to take The Rum Wench there as she would need to be craned out which costs thousands … but I do have 2000 miles of canals here to explore 😃🏴‍☠️

i am sorry, but, I am addicted to your Video's. I was on the Thames for many years with an ex Hireboat (wood) and I rea;ly miss the life but it got far too expensive so sadly I had to stop doing it and went back on the road again. Sometimes watching these its early morning and daylight. When i was on the Thames, I was just a bit too wide to go on a canal but i did manage the Kennet and Avon for a while. Yeah I’ve been in 2 chandlers now and they don’t sell them …. Do you use on a narrowboat ?? In 11 years I’ve never seen a boat with them … they may not be allowed on our banks maybe ??!

@@TheNarrowboatPirate sorry you can’t find the rond anchors in a chandler. I used them for 15 years on two n/bs as stated on previous comments to your channel. I much prefer Armco mooring spots with chains. However on grass banks the ronds are infallible . They do less damage to towpaths as they don’t pull out leaving a large elongated hole which pins do. I’ve just found your channel, sorry for joining so late in the day. I’m binging as much as I can, so I’m getting through em quickly. Love your enthusiasm and humour of boating. I’m stuck in the sweltering heat of Florida, and really missing boat life in the UK. Had a liveaboard in between Bath and Bristol years ago, and it was the most peaceful and satisfying life anyone can have. Keep up the great content, and safe journeys to you.

Another great episode. On the Norfolk Broads we use Rhond Anchors instead of mooring pins. They are L shaped pins and they never work loose, as when the boat pulls on them they dig deeper into the ground. I have often wondered why these are not used on the canals.

Will say that I am concerned about all y'all narrowboaters over there in the heat wave. I live in the American midwest at about the same latitude as Portugal and Morocco, these summer temperatures are normal for us. You do still have to be careful in them, but we are acclimatized to them. UK is at same latitudes as Canada, that's a bit of a different climate.

Ahoy, it’s very hot 😂 I usually love going on holiday to places like Thailand and Africa but it’s not a dry heat here, it’s different and us brits can’t cope 😂 they have shut schools, and you can’t open swing bridges in case they expand in the heat and you aren’t able to shut them again … it’s chaos 😂😂

Hi Wench! Well, an untidy bush is a nuisance to everybody isn't it! Anyrode up, I see there's a canal festival coming up over the weekend of 20/21st August that's only a hop, skip and a jump from where I live so I'll probably be going. It's on the Curlywurly at Silver Street in Brownhills and is being organised by the Lichfield and Hatherton Canal Trust.I know it's a bit out of your area but are you planning to attend?. They are planning to have some historic working boats there and I love to see them, as I can just about remember a few of them still being about and working on the local canals-mainly horse-drawn open coal boats on the Stourbridge, and long-distance boats on parts of the BCN and the Staffs and Worcs, in my far distant youth. Happy days eh! Love your cheeky sense of humour, it really cheers me up in this modern po-faced world. Love Mike and Quorra (Quorra is my naughty little Lakeland terrier)

Aww thanks for watching and the lovely comment … I won’t make it there unfortunately as it’s too far away … it’s a nightmare at the moment with low water levels and locks closing - the Macc is still shut and now the L&L and Rochdale … I’m staying on the Weaver for a while as it’s lovely and deep 😄🏴‍☠️
