I continue my adventure cruising my boat up the Shroppie - The Shropshire Union Canal travelling with a fellow single handed boater. We survive the ordeal of Tyrley locks which are famous on the canal network for their very fierce by-washes and moor up in an absolutely stunning location for a couple of days, I hurt my back breaking a mooring hammer and then continue onwards to Norbury.

Pusser's Rum supplied rum to the British Navy, when every sailor got a rum ration. The practice was stopped on July 31, 1970, know as Black Tot Day. It was used to make the first cocktail, called Grog. A mixture of rum, water, lime juice and brown cane sugar. When you drink Pusser's Rum, you are drinking British Navy history. Another lovely vlog. Mum and I travelled the Shroppie a long time ago (at least a decade), and I remember the narrow sections. I hope that your back gets better soon (if you can hold a straight posture it will help). Deep Heat is useful, especially if you can rub it in just before you go to bed. One of the reasons I love travelling on the canals is because you get to SEE the glorious views; I have lost count of the number of times I have driven past something wonderful without actually getting to see it! Mum came up with a useful trick to moor up when the banks are not holding mooring pins well. Drive a mooring pin at a more horizontal angle than normal until the ring is close to the ground. Then drive a second mooring pin through the ring at a similar (but opposite) angle until it's ring is close the the first. You should now have an X shape, with the apex at ground level. Repeat at the other end, and then moor up the boat through a ring as usual (but if you can get the rope through both rings it would be better), and (with a bit of luck) these will hold on looser banks. Silly joke (to wind up people who don't 'approve' of smutty jokes); What goes in hard and stiff, and comes out wet and sticky? (wait for the disapproving responses); Chewing Gum! Why, what did you think it was?
