😊 I use a walker. I don't usually walk around very much at all. Mostly just from my house to the pool in our community. I'm in the Tampa Florida area. I have determined that I am going to be coming to either the Philippines or Thailand by June of 2024. The videos I've seen you and others make make it interesting to me to walk around more. Maybe my legs will strengthen and I won't need the Walker anymore I don't know but I'll try.

The pavement can be tricky in some areas. Seriously scary, with holes and such on sidewalks. That said, using a cane and keeping your eyes on the obstacles and dangers will go a long way. You can always take a GRAB or Bolt or songtaew to the malls and get a good bit of walking on a safe surface there. Also, if you are renting a condo, many will have a gym nearby. My gym was just a few hundred yards from my house. It was easy to get there and use the treadmills there to build my strength and fitness.

I was just in Chiang Mai and took a samlor. There are only a handful left, but it was a lot of fun. I highly recommend it if you see one.

Some really solid advice. I was there last year and police will pull you over and check your license. At the time I had an International license, now I have a Thai license. I was in chiang Mai staying in an Air Bnb for 10 days. I did find it difficult to navigate my way around because of the canals and so many one way roads. Totally enjoyed it. Found a great sports bar (Scores). A great gym (Gold Hillside) and a great barber (Skill Barber near the university)

When hailing a songtaew, folks should know how to flag them down. It's not the same as in America. You don't raise your arms and wave. You don't whistle! Instead, you extend your arm out, palm down, chest or waist level, and looking at the oncoming vehicle, make eye contact and wave your hand downward, flat. Almost like you are telling someone to calm down haha It's a slow fish-flop motion. If they are full or not interested in picking you up, they will pass by. No worries. Mai pen rai...just flag down the next one which will surely come down the street in a minute or two.

There’s a total of four songthaew routes in Hua Hin. And I saw songthaews in southern Bangkok near Charoen Krung Pracharak Hospital in 2019. Songthaews are all over Thailand per the thaizer website.

native here, Red Car fee is stupidly high, but if your destination is outside of city part, i recommend learning about each colored car route. but this method is rather limited due to not many route available from what i've seen, like only 2 color cared(beside red car) still up and running is blue/light blue for going to Lampuhn and Yellow for going to Doi Saket. way back decades ago there were green car that went to Mea Tang, but i don't see seem now. kinda sad for Chiang Mai public transport tbh, i wish the province government would actually establish and regulate these car route and fees. it can easily become Chiang Mai color(pun intended XD).

Thanks for the informative video.. I’m going to chiang Mai in August.. can you update me on the mosquitoes situation.. is it bad or nothing to worry about?

Hope you have a great time on your trip here and glad you enjoyed the video! The mosquitoes are definitely worse since it's the rainy season. My wife tends to get bitten more than me, but we just make sure to use bug spray when we are outside. The kind you can buy at 7-11 with the pink cap works just fine here.😊🙏🏻🇹🇭

I do see a bus every now and then, but nobody I know uses it and I don’t see any stops anywhere. I’m not sure where it’s from or where it is going. :-)

Been told before in order to legally drive a motorcycle in Thailand you need an 'International license with motorcycle' or a Thai motorcycle license. A regular motorcycle license from my home country is not enough. True? False? ?? 🤔

Flying into Chiang Mai do you suggest booking a grab ride when you get off the plane or is there an area to book them? Need to get to my hotel next weekend. 😊
@TheNarrowGate
@TheNarrowGate 8 ай бұрын
If you book a hotel, that does not have airport pick up, then I would use the airport taxi shuttles at the airport. It’s ฿300 to get you to most places. It’s not a bad price at all. No negotiation necessary.

@@TheNarrowGate thank you. I was told the taxis are out the front to the left I think. I arrive at lunchtime, so have the rest of the day free. Any suggestions as to what I should do? Or know anyone that could show me around?
@TheNarrowGate

You could ask the driver or your hotel should be able to help you out with a driver or ideas of things to see around where you are staying.

Chiang Mai is a DUMP!! The worst air quality in the WORLD for several months out of the year, traffic is a nightmare, least pedestrian friendly city in Thailand, most of the great sites are hours by car, not really much to see in the actual city, and just so BORING. Of all the great places to live and visit in Thailand, why waste your time in Chiang Mai?
@TheNarrowGate
@TheNarrowGate 8 ай бұрын

@@TheNarrowGate you think I watched your video? By the time the ad was over I was finished posting my comment. I enjoy watching videos from places in SE Asia I haven't been to yet and for some reason KZbin puts boring Chiang Mai videos in my queue. The reason I posted the comment so others don't make the same mistake I did and waste your holiday in boring/overrated places like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Pai, etc. Again, of all the fantastic places to live and visit in Thailand, why waste your time in Chiang Mai? Well, enjoy the smokey season.

I lived there for 17 years and pretty much loved it. Had to leave for a while to help out my elderly folks. I prefer mountains over beaches but I also prefer a town of real size with modern conveniences. Sorry you don't like the place. There are many other places to chose from.@@philbe2482
