In the lake district I took my daughter to a place where the animals were allowed to roam, but the people going to see them were often fenced in. We walked between a long narrow wire fenced corridor between two fields of roaming animals at one point. Up ahead of us - when we were half way along - we saw an ostrich running towards us in OUR corridor. It was too far to run back so we froze as this 6ft creature came speeding towards us and awaited our fate. She stopped a foot away and waited. I have never looked a bird in the eye before. She had such enormous eyes. She looked us over and just waited. Realising we were in HER way we pressed ourselves hard into the wire fence and she got by us and began her run again. I expect she huffed a bit as she ran on and thought "bloody tourists!" We on the other hand never forgot the experience.

South Lakes is a fantastic place 😊 As far as I know, that was probably an emu you encountered as they are absolutely everywhere. I had one standing right in front of my face for the whole of the lemur talk. I almost got stuck in one section as a squirrel monkey had taken a shine to my rucksack and wasn’t letting go in a hurry 😅

@@TheNatashaDebbieShow I know what it is like to wake up to lions roaring...when we lived in town, we had a large park across the road. The house was very open, like my own house now. The circus came to town and set up in the park. The kids thought it was great walking past all the animals on their way to the bus stop each morning.WELL! The first night we woke up to the roaring and it sounded like it was in the house!!!! Didn't know what to do! Didn't sleep well that night even though we worked out they were still in their cages. Hated seeing them like that though. Also had an elephant break loose. It raced toward the caravan park next door. When the handler tried to get it, it grabbed a huge palm frond and started waving it at him. It was funny to watch This was 35 years ago and thankfully things have changed. But our experiences taught us that things had to change and we have to treat our fellow creatures with respect and love.We have quite a few nature reserves in Oz and help with giraffes, rhinos, primates etc. If you know of anyone who has exotic animals as pets, chide them that they are being cruel and perhaps killing a species. Have heaps of fun on your travels and don't drown in the hot bath!

Everyone can do their bit to conserve the planet, even token gestures like planting wild flowers for the bees makes a big difference. I am fortunate to live right on a large sea Lough in the UK and have let my garden go wild as it should be, since doing so I have a good variety of wild animals that I would never have seen with the perfect lawn, my favs are a family of Otters that have been visiting my wild garden for the last 3 years. IMO it was humans who destroyed a lot of the planets nature and we do have a duty to put it right.

I’m Kent born and bred and Port Lympne was a staple growing up. Have been there on and off for 40+ years and still love it to this day. ❤ Whilst it is expensive it’s a once in a lifetime experience and all the money goes back into the conservation of the animals.

One of the best things about Port Lympne is that the enclosures are not made with viewing ability but so that the animals are in as natural a habitat as they can possibly be offered, even the grasses have been specially grown❤ the safari AAA drive is incredible getting up close with the giraffe and rhino!

So glad you have featured this wonderful animal park. I live ten minutes away from here in the small seaside village of Dymchurch. We have so much history here dating back to the Roman period. Port Lympne was the site of a Roman Port. I stayed for two nights in their Wolf Lodge which was amazing. Hearing the wolves howl is so spine tingling. You can also try out the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch railway, which is a miniature locomotive which takes you through the Romney Marsh.

My husband and I stayed here a few years ago at Elephant Lodge which i think is now re-named Bear Lodge. It was an amazing experience. We were next to the Cheetah enclosure. After closing time the Rangers would take us into the park. We stayed three nights and did the big cat tour twice, it was different each time, and the small cat tour. Dinner was in the club house, amazing chef! You will absolutely love it x FYI the lions roar ALL night!

I live nearby. 🙂 As I recall, both Poty Lympne & Howletts are run by the Aspinal Foundation. The UK is home to some of the leading conservation spaces & projects in the world, the Aspinal Foundation is one of them. While you're there you could also visit Wildwood, outside of Canterbury (not far away) where they focus on native species conservation like red squirrels, etc.

Port Lympne is, literally a ten minute drive from me. So glad your base is in Kent. London is a great city, and well worth a visit. But there is so much more to Britain. The good thing about having your base in Kent is London is very accessible. So many tourist choose to stay in London, and I understand why. But you need to experience Kent and Sussex. They are terrific counties. You might want to watch " Damian Aspinall and the gorillas ". It's truly heartening. Sending big HUGS from across the pond. 🇬🇧🇺🇸💜

Yay!!! Kent, my home county. I'm in Folkestone - 15 minutes from Port Lympne. Pronounced the same as limb. This place is a reserve, not the old fashioned zoo where you think of animals in cages . I'm not a big fan of zoos either, but to stop extinction etc I am in favour. Until humans can be trusted to stop killing etc. I know people go to PL every year, know people who've gotten married there. Its a great place, sooooo pleased you'll get to go there and especially see a bit of Kent while you're over here. You've just got to decide which animals you're going to stay with LOL So many people ignore Kent, they only go as far south as London. But not you guys!!! YAY! 😁

Hello from a little bit further west than Kent! This whole coastline is packed with history as it's the bit that faces our old enemy France, so you won't be short of things to do. Loads of castles etc and some of the best fish & chips in the country (I may be biased). I could recommend a dozen places to visit easily but I'll stick to just one- Brighton Pavilion. It's unlike anything else you'll see in the UK 🙂

Lympne comes from the name of the ancient Roman fort of Lemanis, built in the 3rd century as one of a series known as the forts of the Saxon Shore, stretching around the south & east coasts from Portchester in Hampshire, the best preserved, to Brancaster in Norfolk (Portus Arduoni & Branodunum). Just part of the historic background of the UK. Enjoy it all girls when you get here. Great video. Wonderful hotel. God bless those who honour & protect our animal companions in this world.

We had the pleasure and honour of honeymooning in South Africa. We stayed near the Kruger National Park at a place called Hippo Hollow. The rooms were chalets overlooking a wild river bank which was teeming with wildlife. I don't think I've ever felt closer to nature When we went on safari in the National Park, the ranger told us that we should keep our arms and legs inside the open-sided vehicle and that way, any animals don't see you - to them, the vehicle is just another big animal that they don't mess with.

It has a sister park also in Kent called Howlets it´s near Canterbury it is the original park of the two .They were founded by John Aspinall .I used to visit both Port Lympne and Howlets regularly This hotel theme is obviously relatively new as it was not there last time I went to Port Lympne .That was a good few years ago.

lol, I love Port Lympe, it's a bit tough to get to if you don't have a car (like me), the nearest train station is a long distance and the trains didn't seem that regular to me. BUT, I have cycled there a couple of times and been blown away by how it's laid out and the animals they have. They were apparently looking to expand on the lower level when I was there last (many, many, many years ago). I particularly love the range of big cats they have and the open paddocks for the bison and the gorillas.

I live around a 15 drive away and was always the place to go for days out with my brothers when we were younger. A friend of mine has stayed there recently and very much enjoyed it. I’m sure you will too. I hope you enjoy Kent (The Garden of England)

As a local to the park I do like it. It's got a lot more commercial but it does good work. The mansion is not to be missed when you stay/visit. It has some amazing rex whistler rooms with huge murals. Charlie Chaplin had his own room in the house and it's so 1920s.

Many years ago I as on a tour of Kenya with my then-girlfriend and our hotel was on stilts in the middle of the park with nighttime visits from elephants..lots of weird noise throughout the night kept us up so out came the night vision glasses and the wine. It was amazing. I hope that the glass is nice and thick.

Wow| That was astonishiny. Kent is a beautiful starting point for your visit to the UK, it is known as "the garden of England". I grew up in Somerset, which is utterly beautiful, but I would suggest that you stick to the East side of the country as it is much older, the West only developed through Industrialisation in the north. I would suggest Avebury, in Wiltshire, which is an enormous stone circle, twice as old as Stonehenge, and if you do that, you might as well dip your toe into Bath. When you hit London, I am more than happy to show you around.
