Anne is probably the most respected royal amongst us Brits, even by people who aren't royalists. She is tough, doesn't like nonsense or people bowing and scraping to her, very hard-working, but with a kind heart. She is heavily committed to the organisations she is involved with, beloved by the military regiments that have her as their commander and had a career in sport that was achieved solely by her own talent and hard work, not her royal status. She has a recognisable, kitsch sense of taste, that has meant she's never been in fashion, but never fallen out of it either. She's produced two likeable, grounded, children, who don't cause trouble. You can see why her brother, the King, sees her as his right-hand woman & why she had such prominence in his coronation, right behind him.

Ron Russell, a former boxer who happened to be walking by the scene, saw Ball attempting to kidnap Anne, and swiftly came to the rescue, punching Ball and getting Anne to safety. Russell gained widespread adulation for his role in saving Anne and was even awarded the George Medal for his bravery. A former boxer who saved the Princess Royal from an armed kidnapper has been forced to sell his bravery medal to pay for his funeral. Ronnie Russell said he didn’t want friends and family to have to chip in after he dies to fund his farewell. The 72-year-old, who received £50,000 for the medal, was hailed a hero after he foiled an attempt to snatch Princess Anne from her car near Buckingham Palace in March 1974. The princess told Ball: “Just go away and don’t be such a silly man”, Mr Russell recalled. “I lifted her up by her forearms, held her in front of me, and said ‘we’re going to walk away and he’s going to have to go through me to get you’,” he said. In the confusion, Mr Russell was initially arrested but later released. As a thank you, the royal family paid off his mortgage. He said that when he was awarded the George medal for bravery, the Queen told him: “This medal thanks you as the Queen, but I want to thank you as Anne’s mother.” 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍

When I was a cop, I often had her back, she was an Olympic Standard rider and often attended Bramham Horse Trials near to Leeds in Yorkshire. I often covered her if her personal guard was unavailable which in a secure, stately house is often, I would often provide cover through the night. She always made sure to say hello. One year I spent Christmas at my brothers house near to the Sandringham residence, we went for a lunch drink on Christmas Day, we were all asked to go into a smaller room as some of the Royal Family were coming for a drink any strangers were identified to the police of course. I being a stranger was approached by the police. Upon showing my warrant card (police I.d.) I was cleared. In Came Anne, Charles Andrew with their father. She saw me and immediately sent her aide to ask me back into the main lounge. She asked why I was there and was told, she introduced me to her family and invited my brother and nephew to join them. A memorable day for them, and also for myself. After that, I pulled every protective job for all Royal visits, and was promoted to Sergeant at her request for being a trusted officer. Sadly my brother passed away a few years ago so now don't go down near Sandringham anymore. Just thought you ladies may like my anecdote. Love your daily broadcasts, when you eventually visit the UK if you get to York, let me know and I will give you a guided tour, as I lived there for ten years and my son has a holiday home inside the City Walls.

What a lovely story. Thank you for sharing it. Anne's daughter, Zara, is also an accomplished horsewoman who won team silver at the 2012 Olympics and, like her mother, 35 years earlier, was voted Sports Personality of the Year. Though horse riding was always Anne's passion and the sport that she chose to compete in, it was always said that tennis was her great talent and that she could have reached the heights in that sport. Anne is five years younger than 1977 (the Queen's Silver Jubilee year) Wimbledon champion, Virginia Wade, and six years older than Sue Barker, Britain's tennis golden girl at the time who was the favourite to win that year. Can you imagine had Anne continued with a tennis career and Queen Elizabeth had presented the Wimbledon trophy in the year of her Silver Jubilee to her own daughter?

Her working day, for a lady in her 70's, is truly bonkers sometimes. If you look at the royal list of engagements, she may often spend her day leaving her home Gatcombe Park at 7-8 am, being ferried around, sometimes to 5 to 6 different locations throughout the day, then getting back to Gatcombe at 9-10 pm at night. Off to all her different patronages that need her attention for something. It might be a plaque unveiling there, a military ceremony here, a dinner to attend, a sign-off on a project she is President of. If the locations are too far apart she will sometimes be helicoptered from one to the other. Whilst travelling, she is being briefied on each different thing, to make sure she is in full possession of the facts of her next destination. Whilst its not manual labour, it is a lot of travel, often hundreds of people to meet in a day, all of whom want that "special moment" with the Princess that they'll always remember and a lot of questions, information to absorb and needing to please. That's hard work for anyone in my opinion, let alone for someone who in any other line of work, would have probably retired some years ago.

*UPDATE* Of course we know about the Protestant change from Catholics on the throne. We were surprised & didn't know that Royals "couldn't" really marry Catholics. That was the part that was new to us** We are ashamed to admit that we do not know anything about Princess Anne! Once we realized this we knew we had to start learning. We've heard so many people in the United Kingdom say how much they love the Princess and we always felt a magnetic pull towards her. This video gave us an incredible insight and glimpse into her life! While a teaser of her life, it was ALL new information to us and we found it captivating, surprising and some, unbelievable even! We really enjoyed this and hope you will too. Thank you SO much for watching! She came to my then work around twelve years ago to unveil a national memorial, the last appointment of her day. She was late and the local police said that her appointments often slipped as she would speak to everyone there. She eventually arrived, did all the formal speech and ceremony and then proceeded to ignore all the people in the VIP tent to make sure that she spoke to every single member of the bereaved families and listen to them talk about their relative commemorated on the memorial. Very down to earth and briskly empathetic without being mawkish. She can also still wear her clothes from the 1970s and 1980s and often does 😂. Please have a look at the documentary done for her 70th birthday! She's married to her second husband, has two children and five grandchildren, and is often seen with her grandchildren at various events when she is 'off duty'. Since her husband retired, he goes on her foreign trips with her and on at least one occasion has filled in for her in the UK when she couldn't make an appointment.

Hi, Natasha and Debbie. Anne's kidnapper was punched to the ground by a passing van driver, and he and another man held him down until police reinforcements could arrive. Several people involved, including her Royal Protection Officer were given bravery awards by the Queen. I saw a documentary about it and her RPO Sgt Jim Beaton was awarded the George Cross (the highest award a civilian can get). He stated that after the award ceremony HMTQ spoke to him. She said the medal was from the country recognising his bravery, but she wanted to thank him personally as a mother, for saving her daughter. In regards to the "Crown" it is pure fiction. No one knows what happened behind those closed doors except the people who were there...and none of them would've ever spoken to the producers of this fantasy show. So give it a miss. If you want to learn more about the Royal Family I suggest you keep to documentaries. There's a really good one called "King George and Queen Mary: the Royal's who saved the Monarcy". There are also plenty of documentaries available on the late Queen too.

Hi girls, my MIL met Anne quite a few times in her life, from official meetings to the Queen's Garden Parties! The Princess Royal is a workhorse (no pun intended), so many engagements crammed into just 365/6 days per year and she doesn't work on every day, just most of them. I think I remember her busiest day was about 7 different places. No wonder she racked up speeding tickets. Also, as far as I am aware, she doesnt have a dresser/stylist and has always done her own hair! Love from UK 🇬🇧

She really is the most badass royal but also full of compassion and gives hundred percent to every charity she works for. She competed in olympics as well as her daughter who won gold in dressage. Both are olympic level competitors. No one in royal family had even done anything like that. Also she refused to be kidnapped even though her bodyguard had been shot. right in front of her,When the gunned man tried to physically remove her, she fought back and managed to get out the other door and ran. Brave woman. She made a very simple statement when it got in news and played it all down. She was only upset for her bodyguard and his family

Princess Anne is very down to earth she takes no crap from anyone and has an excellent sense of humor. One of my friends from church went to be a missionary with save the children and she would say how sometimes totally unannounced Anne would drop in and rather than been waited on she waited on them and rolled her sleeves up to help in anyway even filling children's bowls with a soup or porridge and helping to clean the children up who were dirty. Natasha and Debbie there are two other Royals that would probably interest you one is on Prince Phillip and his carriage driving (looks like a sort of chariot) and Zara Tindell (nee Phillips) Princess Anne's daughter as she has been in the Olympics and won medals.

The fact that the Crown ignored the Anne kidnapping story shows that there is an agenda for the later seasons of the show. Portraying any Royal as a “Badass” and honest, straight-down-the-line person doesn’t fit in with the narrative the writers want to portray. The Falklands War was hardly mentioned, a war in which the Queen’s favourite son was in harm’s way (ok it’s Andrew so showing him in a positive light at the moment would not be a good move).

So glad you have discovered Princess Anne. She is very close to her brother King Charles. She is a true “spare” who knows her duty to support the sovereign and accepts it willingly. One time she was pulled over for speeding the cop recognized her and was just going to give her a warning. She said “do your duty and give me a ticket or I will report you.” An excellent example for all of us.

if he gave her a warning THAT IS ALSO DOING HER/HIS DUTY. NO WAY SHE SAID THAT. I was a Police Officer. What you do not seem to understand is that NO ONE can force an officer's hand. A Verbal Warning is perfect acceptable in many circumstances The Office of Constable comes with discretion on how to proceed. A higher rank cannot tell you what to you. Also I am friends with someone who worked with her on the Olympic bid.. she was down to earth and the LAST thing she would have said is I will report you.

I stopped a speeding man one early morning.. He was a surgeon and a patient was 'on the table' waiting for him to arrive.. I waived him swiftly off. for one thing I didn;t clock his speed. he zoomed past me as i was at a T junction so I was sideways on to him. In all conscious I did not know his speed other than it was way over the limit. After some few checks I waived him off to his job with a verbal warning, told him we didn;t want two on the table now did we? He agreed. Better the guy on the table had a chance of living.. so.. no.. a verbal warning is acceptable and all Police know this.

She appeared on the TV sport show A Question of Sport, the show members were informed on the does & don't do. She even chastised both Zara & Peter at a horse show, was front page news in the paper when pics were taken of her when she smacked Zara on the bum & sent them both home with the nanny. That was in the 70s. She was a no nonsense person & still is. Just like her dad Prince Philip. My brother met him a few times too.when introduced to him,Prince Philip said I know who u are. Ha ha. Just thought I'd share that with u both. Long winded message I know,I apologise. There’s an older interview with Princess Anne that you might be able to find. It was recorded for the children’s tv program “Blue Peter” while Anne was on a visit in Africa and the interviewer was a presenter on the show called Valerie Singleton. Part of the interview was conducted on horseback and there was a visit by the two of them to a bush school and clinic supported by the Blue Peter audience. At the time (early’70’s), it was regarded as something of a scoop in journalism fields, especially by the establishment press on Fleet Street and by the Royal inner circles.
