I very specifically remember when Jon Hopkins' *Immunity* came out in 2013 and people were calling it microhouse that I expected it to be minimal club music. This Floating Points album is the thing I had in mind all those years ago.

Maybe it's because I watched this review post-nut, but all I see in this album cover is a photo of a girl throwing it back. She's wearing a blue top, she's looking over her left shoulder, and the dark portion in the top right corner is her hair. She's even got a butt plug. Turn your head to the right if you can't see it, I promise you it's there.

As a music theory nerd, many progressions in this album is stunningly intricate. The club element here is almost deceptive as the true essence of the album is the extraordinary technical talent of Sam Shepherd.. A solid 9/10.
@bigfatguy27884 ай бұрын
Agreed. Ive heard a lot of fans of his previous work writing this off as being less artistic because of the clubbiness of it. The intricacy and artistry is still very much there, it's just subtle and hidden within absolute rippers. It's a masterpiece

Love that album and listened to it a lot. My only complaint is the tracklist order/selection not feeling very meaningful, so I made my own version of it as a playlist. Besides that it’s perfect imo
@Bennate28384 ай бұрын
@@noa_1104 I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about that album. It's so solid halfway through, and then it sort of loses me when we get into the remixes and alternate versions. The indecisiveness of whether it wants to be a studio album or a remix album or some Frankenstein of both has made it hard for me to enjoy as a coherent work, but I love a lot of the individual songs.
@tomoaries4 ай бұрын
@@Bennate2838 Well that’s because the remixes are uhhh bonus tracks and not part of the album. The actual closer in Somewhere Near Merseilles is like an actual perfect way to close that album out. My only personal complaint is that they should have used the AG remix of Face My Fears on the main album instead of the original. Either way it’s still her best since Heart Station and maybe top 3 outright.
@Bennate28384 ай бұрын

I think fantano missed the point of the last two tracks, sure they are not as interesting form a technical perpective. But they give a stark contrast in tone from the rest of the project to finish it off, the final track definetly alludes to the final movement of promises and gives this death, resolution type idea to finish off the complexity and the intensity of the project.
Reminder that Promises didn't get a 10 for some reason
