I ran a self-publishing business from 2011 to 2019. When I calculated the cost of publishing 68 books and the money earned, I figured that I was earning 25 cents per hour. It was worth the effort, though. I was able to read authors' wonderful stories before anyone else.

This is awesome. U are quickly becoming one of my favorite youtubers. Im canadian and i dont think ive heard of kobo but im new to publishing and books in general. Most of my physical books ive bought from chapters indigo. Id have to research but the parent company ive heard of for sure. I am in the market for either prowritingaid or autocrit. My manuscript is done and my goal is to humanize the ai generated texts. I value your insight and will wait for your signal. I am eagerly waiting for that comparison video!! The video u did combining autocrit and chatgpt for adverbs was good. Too good in fact as it eliminates almost all adverbs that im forced to put some back lol. Thanks again Jason!

We can now have the freedom to tell our stories and experiences on our own without stress. From another Podcast I saw last year, the problem with using multiple services is the bar code. Amazon gives us a free one only to use with their service, if we wanted multiple services the podcaster mentioned to buy the bar code for reuse.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm a totally new self published author. Besides Amazon KDP program. Do the other self publishing companies you mentioned in this video help you distribute physical copies of your books? Or just digital?

Besides Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Draft2Digital, and Ingram Spark all print physical books. Also a couple of other popular aggregators that do physical copies are Lulu and BookVault. Apple, Kobo, and Google do not do physical copies, just ebook or audio.

To keep it easy, just publish on Amazon and Draft2Digital. For the print book, you can easily find a template for both.

I have read and heard that if we use KDP Amazon to do our print and demand, they retain our copyright and that we the authors cannot buy them at reduced price and also sell them ourselves. Is that correct or not? How does it actually work?

Depends on whether you want print on demand or to buy in bulk. I don’t know much about the latter. But for the former I’d either go with Amazon KDP or Bookvault.

Mostly ebooks but you can connect to Lulu or Bookvault to sell print on demand copies.

I suspect Barnes and Noble will fold soon. The brick and mortar stores are going away...poof. Their digital platform will either evaporate or be consumed by Amazon. I'm thinking of concentrating my efforts to Amazon, Apple, and Kobo. I'm a noob. Video is great. Earned my subscription.

Actually Barnes and Noble has been growing for the first time in decades. Ever since they were bought by the same guy who rescued Waterstones in the UK. They’ve actually been opening stores lately. And print sales are up a lot in recent years whereas ebook sales have remained flat. So I wouldn’t count it out yet.
