Your children are so blessed to have you for parents and to live in such a magical place. I raised a boy and a girl on 135 acres in Wisconsin. They had Hills covered with trees and caves and a creek that ran through the meadow. Their tree house they made themselves and it was just planks basically a floor high up in 100-year-old cottonwood tree. Our property was nowhere near as awesome as yours and yet my children say that they were raised in an ideal place. Kids having the freedom to run and play outside and use their imagination. That's what kids in the United States are missing today

Hello there ~If l may ~You had a to support yourself at a steady job. Else-where. For sure. And had no time to make it look as their garden in Portugal and all the rest. ..they have been blessed to do this as a hobby . Or as fun projects. Today you tube is their job. Working on the land and their home 24/7. Lucky for the things that have changed for folks these days To enjoy to the fullest. We went to work at our boring jobs and didn’t get that lovely time doing projects.

Judie, there are still a lot of kids being raised in the country thankfully. City kids if they're poor don't get to venture into nature as much. I used to take my daughter to a community farm in Osceola Wisconsin. We went there on weekends to pick/harvest vegetables from Minneapolis. It was in community with the Waldorf school system. The farm bordered the St. Croix River and also had a creek with a waterfall on it that ran downhill to the river. It had farmland, pasture with native grasses and native wildflowers, and old wood forest that the creek went through. It was idyllic. Parents who raise their kids with awareness still make the effort to share the great outdoors and unspoiled nature with their kids. There's still hope for us all yet!!

To watch the boys grow is so great and I have every confidence that with the stellar parenting you give them they will grow up brave and filled with curiosity and zest for life. Here in Brazil this little orange flower you didn't know the name of, the ones beside the geranium, is called Onze Horas, which we could translate like "eleven o'clock". Because this is the hour when they usually open, cause the sun starts to be very hot and up in the sky. So these flowers, which you can find in many different colours, open and close everyday and are easy tô mantain! 😊

I think that little plant with the orange flowers is called Portulaca, or Purslanes. If I’m right, they come in a bunch of different, bright colors 🥰. The mint may still grow outside the pot, because the runners get roots too.(at least the mint we grew did. It ended up taking over our whole garden 😬).

Hey Jon and Tara, I love how you are raising your kids. Just an idea, our son kept "borrowing" our tools. My father-in-law was helping us renovate our home, and I finally went to our dollar store and got him his own set of small tools. The understanding was that he could only take apart broken things, with grandpa or me, or build with scraps or approved items. Handsaws and hammers had to be used when one of us were with him. He built a lot of stuff, developed a love of mechanics and how things work, and has learned to fix things. His sister, our daughter, also learned. Imagination was encouraged. Both are now capable and happy with their lives, and can fix most anything.

Regarding your pending demolition and new build, maybe think about a place on your property that is designated for a large dumpster, large equipment storage, like tractors and a place for them to store the materials for the new build -pallets of stone/wood/etc. We call this a "staging area". Should be close enough, but out the way - this will prevent mayhem. I am sure you know all about it. Just a thought. Cheers!

Save the wood from the windows to make hinged doors for them so you can close them. I am really impressed by sll that you have done in so short a time. I love how the boys are so involved and learning and growing. Watch out for your tools John, I have a feeling the boys are in competition now. Those two boys are really close to each other. I love it. You both are doing an amazing job raising those little tykes. Cheers and best wishes always. Oh, one more thing, I hope you don't bore holes in the nice render and cement. It is so beautiful. Just put plants that will droop over. I like your idea and it will look pretty for a while, but I hate to see all that render and cement bored with holes. You can still make me a believer though. I will be strong.😅❤ Lots of love to you all always. ❤

Such a beautiful view you are going to have on the property when you get on to the house. The view is breathtaking. I love how your imaginations turn into reality. You are an amazing team. Loved this video. I can't believe Sawyer is getting along so well as he was just born to my memory and here starting to talk and understand and find himself walking all about...............these precious babies are growing to fast! I imagine Crusoe is going to need his own lot of chickens soon. LOL He is quite the little fellow. He will also gain lots of memories of Joelle's teachings. Beautiful family and I love to watch you on Wed and Sundays! Blessings............beautiful plantings in the garden and new spot outside the house.......the climbing rose will be beautiful!

The spring flowers are so cheering and lovely! Sorry to say the mint roots will still run and overtake the garden - through the drainage holes. Or even over the edge of the pot if it’s at soil level. It’s like bamboo, almost imposible to eradicate once it establishes.

You've given me some great ideas for planting in my gardens. I love the idea of putting the mint and lemon balsam in the original container so it doesn't take over, thank you! I love small garden spaces, they're so easy to maintain and beautify :)

The orange flowers next to the climbing rose are iceplant. Love full sun and heat. They should cascade over. And you can snip off three- or four-inch stems and stick in the ground to root, so you'll have more. They're pretty bullet proof. Bear in mind the lemon balm and mint may sprout right out the holes in the pot and send runners through your garden. To me, best would be to plant them in, like, 12-inch pots and set them on a cement slab. The new garden looks good. Love thyme. A very pretty plant; and so many varieties. There's something called pineapple sage, which is a lovely two-plus-foot plant with red flower spikes and smells like pineapple; also bee balm (monarda) is similar, with a real sage-like scent. Both good pollinators. How is the Quince handling the transplant? Sorry for the long post ;)

Are you going to move the kitchen John built into your temporary house? I hope so. It’s lovely to see you’re moving the plants that could otherwise get destroyed when the main build starts. I love strawberries so applaud the idea of planting them in lots of places. By the way, your tree house is looking mighty so far.

My neighbors’ giant magnolia grows high over my 3story house and driveway. It ‘gives’ or drops at least four different things. Furry bud pods, blossom pedals, then cigar shaped hard flower cores sounding like rocks falling on roof and vehicle. In Fall thousands of hand sized leaves cover my place that will become lace over the winter in proper conditions.

As for the mint, as it grows, the branches will touch the soil and root there. So planting in the pot probably won’t deter the mint from taking over. Sorry to share bad news. Maybe your mint won’t do this but mine did. Now I love mint so now I plant in pots and place around my patio area!
