The first edible olive tree appeared on the scene around 5,000 years ago during the Bronze Age, and has become a cultural and agricultural centerpiece from that moment on. From the time the first cultivated crop bore fruit, olives have been used for a variety of purposes. Ancient Greeks used it as a skin and hair treatment for good health, its oil has been used for light, cooking, eating/drinking and ceremonies, while its leaves have been used to crown kings. Scientists have determined that the Olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane could very well have come from cuttings of a tree dating back to when Jesus is believed to have prayed on this same hill in Jerusalem. In 2012 the National Research Council of Italy conducted a study to see if any of the 8 olive trees remaining at Gethsemane today could have been the same that sheltered Jesus Christ. Testing the older parts of three tree trunks, they obtained the dates of 1092, 1166 and 1198 AD through radiocarbon dating. With DNA tests, they showed that all three of these millennia old trees were spliced from one parent tree, a practice often employed to keep a lineage of trees alive. Olive trees possess the ability to regrow from roots alone. Along with evidence from the DNA tests, it is possible that the olive trees alive today in the garden of Gethsemane were also still standing some 2,000 years ago through splicing and continual cutting of the trees above the roots. Franciscan monks look after the olive trees today & lovingly care for them. They use every part of the olives. The oil is used for blessings, and the pits are used for Rosary beads. (I spliced this together from a 'ucatholic' church article) p.s. These amazing trees remind me of one of the oldest known trees on the planet ...named "Methuselah"!! What a legacy to carry on!!!

In Seattle here. So I’ve used Giant Sequoia(4) and Redwoods(2-a Filoli blue and a Dawn Redwood which is deciduous. These are the backbone of the lawn supplemented with Sword ferns, manzanita trees and blueberries interspersed to make a forest. Also remodeling an old house that was started in 1949. I took early retirement and coming up on 30 years, working on the yard and house. Life interferes sometimes but it’s a balm for the soul. So thankful and I get it when you express your gratitude for the joy of it all. God is good.

Beautiful Sunday to all and you especially Newby family, this Sunday's episode should be titled VISIT to the GARDEN OF EDEN, a truly JOYOUS OCCASION, OLIVE TREES are favorites in my family, my bedroom furniture is reminiscent of olive tree wood, so you can imagine how this episode touched all of us. Been blessed to have visited the GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE IN JERUSALEM, there is a 2000 years old olive tree in the center that the Lord Jesus Christ surely touched. I bought a Cross made of Olive Tree from Israel. Beautiful, beautiful video with a big thanks to all the gentlemen who made the planting possible. Tree of Life can it be an Olive Tree???? Rejoicing with you all🌿🌱🌳👶👱🐶🌅🏡🇵🇹🙏🙏🙏💖🥰

I am reminded of the giant Redwoods in California. To stand at the base of the tree and look up. Those could never be transplanted. The "General Sherman" is estimated at being approximately 2,700 years old. These trees have the same kind of "old soul" feeling about them. Did you feel the same vibrations as you stood next to the olive trees? As a Tolkein fan, my favorite characters are the Ents. Are you a fan too? Veggies are useful, flowers are pretty, but a tree... A tree is a sentinel, a guardian, a caretaker of the forests. I feel like there ought to be an anthem to sing for moments like this. Thanks for sharing this with us. What a thrill. Make sure all future workman coming to do the house know there is a massive fine for injuring our trees!!! OUR??? Why not! Yup, our trees.

The Redwoods are beautiful Abigail, you are quite right. We get very similar vibrations next to the olive trees, very special indeed. We will protect and make sure this olive tree is safe when the future workman come 🫒🌳❤️🙏🏼

I have to agree - the Redwood Forrest’s are the same in the vibration levels- if you know, you know.

Here is the anthem you may have been seeking all your life ... “I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that moves the sun to shine And stands all day against the wind, With a green sweat on every branch, And God is wild to get him down.” by Joyce Kilmer was sung by the famous singer Paul Robeson, and Mario Lanza among others. (My mother sang this version to me as a child ...a real tear-jerker!! ...on YT type ... "Mario Lanza - Trees - Claude Monet")

"Trees" (1913) I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth's sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree ...I think this is the final, most popular version.
