This isn't easy. What do we do now? | Sossusvlei Namibia

This week we head further into the desert to Sossusvlei and climb some of the world highest sand dunes. This is the 6th episode of our family overlanding Africa adventure and is one of our favourites. Since leaving van life Europe our adventures have got wilder and hotter.
After attempting a climb of the worlds highest sand dune we get stuck and then all of a sudden in true Newby fashion plans change.....

What an experience you’ve shared with us! The diamond treasures that popped out of the desert, as you described so graphically, and were swept away by the Orange river to be scattered far away. I love the thought of them lying safely in the sand, wild horses walking slowly over them, snakes curled around them, just as they should be… Africa, the word for a wonderfully diverse land rich in history and full of mystery. I’m just going to shake the dust off my slippers and have my morning coffee. What fun we all had, thank you so much.x

Hello, Newbies... another great video. I was reading some of the comments and someone compared the sand with snow. At least snow melts. That shower must have felt fantastic. You all have fair complexions, be careful with the sun. My eldest daughter and I went to Trinidad in March and got slow roasted. We were from Rochester, NY where it was freezing cold and the sun wasn't at a high trajectory. So going to the equator was HOT 🔥🔥🔥. Carrie and I laughed because our sunburns were horrible. Felt like alligator skin. Not complaining, just reminiscing about our adventure, that was 30 years ago. Hot or not Crusoe is singing to you now. Love seeing your family, take care and be safe. I remember when I was there I thought I was going to die. It was so hot. You need a hat and long sleeves because of that hot sun. Back at camp, I did not realize that there was a nice pool. I was standing underneath those big and tall water tanks, they were overflowing, trying to cool off. I only saw the pool when we left. I couldn't believe that I missed it.. I did jump in for a quick swim then. I will never forget the whole experience. Awesome to see everything again.

spent many a hot day there after a climb up the dunes with my toddler. we make use of the the posh lodges near by who are happy to serve day-visitors a frosty lager around the pool - then head back to camp when it cools down

I have been fine last week slowly making good progress. Back to hospital on Wednesday to wear a heart monitor for 48 hours.feeling better day by day .really nice place you have in Portugal 🇵🇹 😉. Oh my goodness! What a place! Is the sand hot? On a hot summer’s day in Australia when you walk on the dry sand on the beach you can feel the unbearable hot sand even while wearing thongs (known as flip flops in other countries) or in a pair of sandals …. and there you were sinking into it. That looked like a hard slog getting as far as you did… well done. Is it a cooler place in say July, for you to try next time?

@@suzannep8371 quite right. He had sunblock all over his exposed skin, so that good news, and of course he had a hat too. Thanks for the parenting advice, we do take our jobs as Crusoes mum and dad very seriously and look after him well. It’s just his first years of life will be a little less normal than most young boys, hopefully they will be brilliant. This Sunday the little man is surrounded by Meerkats, imagine that, very cool!! 👍🐘🦒👍

@@TheNewbys very good... later 'Prof' Martin, was a famous geologist, and as young man, working in Namibia, observed the political situation before ww2...and for avoiding to get a call as soldier, and he knew the desert very well, he decided to hide himself and his friend in the desert. Finally stayed there for years...and it was dangerous for being detected meaned death penalty... just read it - You will learn a lot about Namibia and history!
