She drives the SCARIEST road of her life | Sani Pass Lesotho

This week takes us on an epic adventure into Lesotho. The Kingdom in the Sky. Having picked up our new truck last week, our overland Africa adventure truly begins. We drive through the Drakensburg mountains to the Sani pass, an infamous road that only the strongest 4x4 will be able to negotiate. A short debate between Tara and John ends up with Tara being chosen to do the driving.
It's a crazy and scary drive along a steep winding road. We make it to the top at last, and enjoy a well deserved pint at Africas highest pub.
A drive across Lesotho has Crusoe very excited as we head off to explore Dinosaur footprints.
We are the Newbys, John, Tara, and our two little boys Crusoe and Sawyer. We’re a family who are pursuing an alternative lifestyle, and after two years of full time travel we’ve taken root on an abandoned farm in Northern Portugal which we’re renovating into our dream off-grid homestead. I’ve seen those dinosaur footprints … close on 50 years ago. There weren’t any houses or people around then and the river, after a long hot and dry summer, was barely a trickle so the footprints were immediately visible. Not too far from there we also came across an overhanging edge of a cliff and the whole back wall was filled with San rock art. Amazing!

1 Like the prophets of the Bible, in April 1993, I, Kacou Philippe, a man who had never been in a church, I receive in a vision, the visitation of an Angel who commissions me for a Message destined to the whole earth in fulfillment of Matthew 25:6 and Revelation 12:14. Dear friends, discovering bit by bit your past travels, today, 7 months after I discover Sani pass and the country of Lesotho, the Sani Pass made me remember some bridges crossing from one mountain range to another in the 4 major Islands of Hawaii, do not know if you ever been, but the view of the mountains quite similar with the pass of course roads much better asphalted. Congratulations for driving through Tara, Crusoe real little adventurer nothing phase him anymore, Canada has dinosaurs in the western provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, hope to see you there one day and explore this great country too. A lovely film which takes me back to February 1982. In those days the border if I recall correctly, was the pub! I was staying at The Sani Pass Hotel and a chap called Deret would drive people up to the top and down again in a battered old land rover. A drink at the pub was essential!

Back in 1982 there was no South African border post at the bottom of the pass and from what I recall, no Lesotho border post at the top of the pass, but maybe I missed it as I did not venture further than the pub! Passports were examined in the pub, where we were told that half the pub is in South Africa and the other in Lesotho!

I drove roads like this years ago in Labrador. So glad I never got stuck as the mosquitos and black flies would eat you alive. Some great fishing areas on my routes then and it wasn't easy but I touched it out with the bugs. This looked epic and amazing.

As far as i know the PCR test allows you a 14days stay in Lesotho and South Africa will allow u back without having to test again, as long as it's within the 14days(first day being test results date) . The 72 hrs, is the time you have from testing to crossing into Lesotho(if your test results date is over 72hrs, the Lesotho customs officials wont accept the results).
