Hopper/dropper is my go to on any new water followed by stripping a streamer on a sink tip line. Even on a hopper/dropper I’d be willing to bet 80% of the takes are sub-surface. The guide did a really good job positioning the boat and putting the author on fish. Good work there.

You have the big horn, the wind river ( same river different section and rules), the lake/res, all the amazing feeder streams on the west side of the res. Then hope on over to the N.Platte near Casper or Saratoga (The Encampment is just mind blowing During the Drake hatch). I'd say the fish maybe the strongest healthiest s=fish Ion the lower 48. @andydavidson41084 жыл бұрын
That sure looks like the Bighorn below Yellowtail Dam which is actually in Montana. Also heard that due to high snow pack the warm water is coming over the top of the dam thus increasing the water temperatures and as a result, the trout population is down. We had a place on the Bighorn for 20 years. Still remember those 50 fish days on dry flies.

@kevingeary1472 Жыл бұрын
If your on a new river you've never fished and you have 1-2 days to make a show hiring a guide makes the catching much easier. If your a diy person and your just out there for the experience maybe just try your luck. If you want to learn more and catch more hire a guide. You don't have to do it every time but they will help you be successful. They know what to use, where to go and what time of day, weather, temp ect. to make changes. Save your money and try it once and then tell us you hated it and didn't learn anything. Arrogance would be him showing up somewhere he had never been and saying this is easy I know everything and don't need a guide.
