I think it's more political incompetence than malice: she doesn't think she's lying. I think she genuinely went into that interview understanding and keeping in mind only that her message is about reducing business regulation. She therefore wasn't mentally quick enough on her feet to realise that the question she was being asked wasn't primarily about business regulation, and answered it as though it was. In the interview, the interviewer does interrupt her, but it's actually to give her the chance to pause and check what she just (unintentionally) said. Kemi, however, can't admit that she wasn't engaging her brain properly, so falls back on this pathetic Trumpian line. Of course, this still makes her unsuitable for the leadership, but for sheer political incompetence, not malice. She's a nasty piece of work if you look at her actively vindictive opinions on actual people (e.g. trans people or trade unionists), but I think this interview debacle speaks more to her ineptitude than her malice. ETA: I commented this when I was a couple of minutes into the video, didn't know Maitlis made basically the same point later on. Oops!
