There’s a lot of misleading information in this video. First of all, Bukele didn’t alter the constitution to allow a second term, that decision was made by prior governments before he was even in politics . One of the journalist also mentioned that el Salvador is no longer a democracy and that there’s no longer a system of checks and balances. I’m assuming he’s saying that because bukele’s party holds majority in every aspect of government, but that’s because the people elected that . They voted for him and the rest of the members of the National Assembly. That’s exactly what a democracy is, the people choose their representatives . They also say that a lot of innocent people have been arrested but they don’t mention that more than 7000 people were released from prison after it was discovered that they hadn’t committed a crime . Innocent people are detained all over the world , it is not exclusive to El Salvador . One of the journalist also said that people are afraid of law enforcement officers now , that’s false , I can speak on that from personal experience . It was also questioned as to why bukele didn’t do the state of exception from the get go . Should every world leader by Chastised for not implementing every aspect of their policies on day 1? That’s illogical . The panel also says that the El Salvador method can’t be replicated in other countries because El Salvador is small. Yes,El Salvador is small but other countries like Mexico have way more resources to combat crime.

The BIGGEST disappointment ive had with him is the mining. Not because i dont believe him. Its because out of all the great things hes managed to do. He hasnt spent any real energy in environmentlism. ES has close to 0 wilderness compared to its neighbors. We have the 2nd least amount of rain forest left after Haiti. Ive excused his projects on infrastructure in areas that are depleted of forest, and there we logged it down more to build them. Ive excused his time ignoring the issues of public health in terms of healthcare access and waste. But now heading into 7 years? He hasnt banned single use plastics like Rwanda or Kenya, which is a big problem. He hasnt handled the illegal poaching and loggin. He hasnt focused one thing in habitat rehabilitation for wildelife. Bukele has made it abundantly clear, he doesnt put value in the environment. This issue of mining will be the second biggest decision hes made since adressing the gangs. Because, its directly tied to the countrys fragile environment.
