@@TC-cd5sm The thing is when they use the same model CVT that's in a Nissan Versa in a Mitsubishi Mirage the thing is bulletproof. Why? On paper I'm sure it's as close of a match as possible, but when the slightest thing goes wrong the CVT just grenades itself. Sadly, manual transmissions just don't sell anymore in the US specifically, and are on the decline globally as well. I'm sad to see them go, but bump shifters aren't a bad alternative when they give you full control over them. That's what F1 cars use these days, for example. @veemacks7255 many Toyotas don't use CVTs, the Rav4 uses the Aisin 8 speed, the trucks and body on frame SUVs use a 10 speed, and the regular hybrids with the hybrid synergy drive system (rav4, corolla, prius etc) use a planetary gear set that doesn't shift at all. The planetary gear set is often referred to as an "E-CVT" but it is in absolutely NO WAY AROUND CVT. Basically the way it works is the hybrid battery and gasoline engine can both send power to the electric drive motor, which propels the vehicle. These are arguably some of the most reliable vehicles that have been built in the last 20 years, regularly seeing well over 500k miles in taxi/rideshare/delivery uses and long distance commuters while achieving amazing KPG for the vehicles they're in (almost 60 in the prius, the Rav4 and several similar sized crossovers get 40mpg, the Avalon/ES300H get 44, camry close to 50 and the Sienna and Highlander at 35)

It's partially the car companies fault (greed), but a lot of it is the regulations. It's really hard to make a cost effective car when it needs a million air-bags, mandated safety tests, tons of sensors, etc. Then they also need to be competitive, so they need cameras, GPS, entertainment system, etc. Then they still need to meet MPG requirements on a hugely bloated car stuffed with everything I just described. Not to mention that they need to keep track of all the regulations they need to comply with, that in itself requires a huge staff.

The entire undercarriage was gone two years later. Nissan knew the entire time due to it being a design flaw. It captured water w/out adequate drainage. Otherwise it was a solid car. I work in a manufacturing plant that makes automotive engine components. Our customers currently are Toyota, Honda, Ford, and Nissan. Our sales volume also follows that order.. Ford is opening a new line with us for the diesel F250s in 2 months and it'll have full mass production capacity by spring 2026. Meanwhile Nissan parts represent maybe 10% of the total parts we make. Ford represents probably about 20%. Toyota and Honda are fairly equal, with Toyota having a slightly higher demand but hardly. Toyota has plans for the future. Honda has plans for the future. Ford has plans for the future. Ive heard ZIP about any plans going forward scaling the Nissan operation up meanwhile we actively do that with our other customers like Toyota. This news story makes perfect sense. It's also that auto makers need to either go full hybrid or full electric ASAP and a company like Nissan isn't equipped for that challenge.

I'm surprised by Nissan's rebuke of the "12 months of liquidity left"-statement. Didn't they say so themselves in November when they started flirting with Honda and positioning themselves for government subsidy/support? Also, we replaced our 2012 Leaf with a brand new one in Nov. '23. It's the main vehicle in a three car household. The 2023 model's quality is *much* lower than that of the 2012, surprisingly so. It is still a simple, predictably reliable EV in contrast to the shaky quality of, say, Tesla or GM. Kia/Hyundai lead the EV market, but everyone knows that and it shows in valuation. BYD, Xpeng, MG, Maxus, Seres, Nio and others have good cars, but they all fall short with some equipment choices or quality experience.

I own a 2001 Nissan PF and it is still running without any major problems. So far the issues were normal wear and tear and the vehicle is in better than good to excellent condition. I still drive it because it scares me today to buy one of these newer cars with keyless ignition and lots more plastic.

Nissan has just had too many issues over the years which has gotten them to this point. The CVT transmission, Ghosn bleeding them dry, chasing fleet market sales instead of quality product, all of this weakened their brand name and perception. They need a complete revamping of culture in how they operate before trying to merge with Honda because they are on two completely different modes of operation.

I had a 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport, it was a decent car, but it got totaled and I got a Mazda now, and definitely not going back. I heard that Nissan new lineups has those small 3 cylinder engines + their crappy CVT transmission, I hate CVTs, not going back.

I have a Nissan Leaf EV. That's the last great car they built. Affordable new and used. Although it has no thermal management system unlike every other EV on the market, that's not necessary for a city commuter car. Don't DC charge in 90+ weather. My 1990s Nissan Sentra lasted almost 30 years too. Not a great car either, but it runs forever. Both will last far longer than the Nissan CVT gas cars. Sad to see Nissan fail as a whole so badly.

All Japanese car designs are stuck in the 80's. Plus they are all too stubborn to change it.

I remember I had a 2012 Nissan Sentra. After a while of driving it, I thought the transmission was weird. I didn't know it was a CVT. Anyway, years later, that transmission went out. I'm never buying a Nissan again.
