PS3 Slim YLOD/RLOD Easy-Fix (Without disassembly!)

I found out how to start a PS3 Slim even though it has the YLOD/RLOD.

June of 2022 and the technique still works. I don't actually get the yellow light, but it shuts off a few seconds after the first beep followed by a red blinking light, and the magic works, thanks. Indeed it feels it has something to do with "warming up" or something else related to charging the capacitors.

The issue is the same as a PC that you have to cycle several times to finally get it to get past POST. The caps on the board that control/regulate the power are bad and are not supplying enough power to turn it on reliably. A symptom of this is your hard drive not being found/other parts not initializing due to the initial power draw. What rapid cycling does is there is enough residual charge in the capacitors eventually to get a boot - but any game or heavy use will likely crash the system. So back up data ASAP. Note that a SSD instead of a spinning drive can also improve system life for a few weeks. But the solution is to replace the dying caps. The video card itself almost never goes bad without massive corruption and glitches and so on first.

the original ps3 slims like when they first released, the ones that have the buttons that light up, tend to have a lot of issues with the disk drive and overheating issues. the seconds gen of the slim, *the on with no light up buttons* is a better choice, had it for 7-8 years at this point, still alive and running.

This worked for me! Took about 5 cycles. Light was solid red indicating power. Pressed and held the power button til the single beep. Let go and pressed again holding for about 3 seconds to power down the PS3. Light goes back to a solid red light. Now repeat 4 more times. I decided to turn on my Ps3 slim to replay some old games which I haven't turned on for about 6 months now, immediately my PS3 turn on it made 3 beeps and turned off again. I tried turning it on many times but still the same issue.. I made some research and i discovered it was the Infamous RLOD🛑. I didn't know what it was at first, after a little research online and watching of fixing video tutorials on how to fix such issues but none worked. when I came across your video and I decided to have faith that it will work this time and after about 8 tries my PS3 came back to life and it is working perfectly 🥰. Your method worked, only took a couple minutes. Watched other videos where people took it apart, apply glue, blow dryer for 30 minutes, etc etc. Glad the simple solution worked!

_This worked for me!_ My Slim CECH-2001A finally “died” about a month ago from the RLOD/YLOD and I was able to get it to power back up using this technique. Putting desk fans right up against the vents of the console kept it from overheating and powering back off. Now, I just need to buy a new PS so I can transfer the HD data to a new unit. In the meantime, I was able to upload crucial game save data to PS Plus (using the 14-day trial) and then a usb flash drive as a second backup. *_THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS INFO_* 🙏🏾☺️😃

Solution 1: Reflow GPU & CPU /no Reball/ Solution 2: Change Token Capacitors /all , not some / If removing HDD gives you "Cannot Start bla bla " screen - GPU problem. Wait 4-5 min , put back HDD and Boot. Will work fine. If even removing HDD after few secs console turns off with red lid blinking - tantalum capacitors replacement requires. p.s. In some cases you have to replace all tantalum capasitors on board, not only eight NEC/Token.

Actually if you want to turn to safemode: Hold power button until it beep 1 times and repeat it again and it will beep 3 times NEXT: you have to select: (REBUILD DATA BASE)

My problem occurred during hours of playing Skyrim. Yeah, PS3 wasn't built for playing over 5 hrs a day, yet my Wii was able to handle 10hrs or more for weeks at a time. >_< Nintendo ... playing with power, real power that never fails. That is why I'm just going to get the Switch to finish Skyrim. I never had any issues with any Nintendo product (NES, SNES, Game Cube, N64, Wii... haven't had any problems with them). My next PS3 is just for 2-3 hour play, such as MK games, LOTR games and Katamari. Open world games just seem to fry these systems like nothing. I tried doing all of these fixes and my PS3 won't even eject the Skyrim cd stuck inside. Oh well whoever gets it on eBay will have a free game, I'll include the box to go with the cd.

This is fake, you press and hold and their is no second beep because it has the ylod. The only fix is to re apply thermal compound to the rxs and cpu. You must be connected to ccapi in the background, and these comments and likes are your bots.

This depends whats wrong with the ps3 If the ps3 chips or blu-ray cable is damaged the ps3 will have another short startup 2-4 seconds Max If the ps3 have been sitting around for 1 year then your ps3 will need to warm up in order to get the chips working

Cant belive same shit happens to the slim version , my PS3 Fat 60GB vers. has lasting 13 Years bevor he got YLOD . Hop the Slim and all new Version of Plastation has Better Soldering on GBU AND CPU RAM all. It seems to happen to Consoles ho are made with LED free Solder Quality etc.

Well, it's surely a very clever way of starting up the PS3, but it obviously doesn't solve the problem itself. I wouldn't use it to play games for like hours. I'd just back up all my data on some external hard drive and then shut it down. Because you never know what's the actual cause of the YOLD and if you let the console run for several hours, it may get overheated and then you probably wouldn't be able to turn it on again at all.
