This is the first time I see one of your reviews. I was a little miffed at the very start because I had to significantly increase the volume to hear your comments. I'm glad I persisted because when you got to the actual review, I was quite impressed by the amount of comparative detail and the technical depth of your review. I was also very impressed by your verbal skills with very accurate descriptions. I look forward to viewing other reviews you may have produced or will be producing. Very refreshing!

The resin Falcon was my second pen, bought after the Metropolitan. Having used it for about a year, it’s hard not to love. I was a bit put off by the nib shape at first, but these days I consider it part of the pen’s charm. Goes without saying that it writes like a dream. I don’t have the money to buy a Justus sadly, but your review really highlighted where these two shine, especially the Falcon.

Great review.I prefer the Justus because of that nib but the metal Falcon is a very impressive pen. Long term I'd aim to get both in my collection.

Thanks for the tip on using the Justus in reverse. I usually don't trying this with new pens as over 90% of the time, it doesn't work. But on the Justus, it works right from the start and keeps on writing and doesn't feel scratchy to me. I have both pens and love them.

Dan, thanks for the video. There are so many companies that now are offering FP's. I guess the FP's are coming back and it seems there are younger users. We need the comparisons. I am back from a short hiatus using fountain pens. I have owned many ballpoints, rollerballs, mechanical pencils, and fountain pens. So, I went to my favorites, Cross Pens .I recently received my Cross Bailey Fountain pen. It is red lacquer with silver trim. It truly is a classic looking fountain pen. It has a nice grip for those who like a nice girth. The ink flows well from the nib (medium) and dry's really fast, before you finish the next word on the paper. For those of you who are first time users of FP's, will have to get used to writing with a fountain pen. It can be done with practice. The posting for this FP (Posting is when you put the cap on the back of the pen while you write, regardless of whether it pushes on or screws on with threads) is horrible. . It does not stay on and becomes loose and won't stay posted. I am an author and have owned and still own over 12 cross pens from ball points, roller ball,mechanical pencils, and fountain pens. I don't know why cross can't fix this. I did send it to their repair dep't. If it wasn't for the loose posting, this would be one classic fountain pen for the price and earn 5 stars. I hope Cross can fix this problem.I eagerly await the return of my fixed FP. Award winnind author, fredberri.com

For writing long hours, what a buttery smooth, ergonomic pen that comes to your mind? I mean a pen that just glides and you don't hear any feedback and it is a joy to hold and write with for hours? Your reviews are amazing. You know your stuff. You are the expert, obviously. I get educated watching your reviews.

Enjoy you reviews despite the low volume. I've had a Falcon for some time now, it is my favorite pen. Didn't get it for flex but the bounce in writing is quite nice. Having got a bit more money lately, I've decided to spring on the Justus 95, which is enroute. Again not for the flex, but for the writing experience I hear is better than the Falcon. Don't expect to toss the Falcon. Very interested to see how the Justus stacks up.

I have the Falcon for quite a while - since it was sold under the NAMIKI brand. I love it but then my hands are small to medium. I prefer lighter pens since I started experiencing A bit of arthritis. With my heavier pens, I don't post. I may get the JUSTIS when I get a bit of a windfall.

Justus feels front heavy due to the extra mechanism. So balance wise i wont call it perfect while being usable. The nib is a size 10 that is spotted on the 742 soft fine nib. Falcon wins imho on the spring department. Its responsiveness is nothing like any other offering from pilot despite the quirks in railroading, i personally prefer the falcon over the justus despite the limited flex.

***** That's interesting-- it might have to do with the way you hold your hand while writing. Some hold their hands in a curve so their hands move above the writing as it is being done. The way I hold my hand, it pretty much trails the writing, so I'm moving into wet ink almost immediately after writing something.

Please let me ask you this: I have a Lamy 2000, fine, and a pilot falcon. Still I don't feel completely contact. I am still dreaming about the pen that holds perfectly in the hand and writes like a dream, buttery smooth and no feedback, just gliding on the page and it is perfectly ergonomic. What would you personally advise? Is there such a pen? :) Have a blessed afternoon. In Christ, Ibrahim

it means that instead of producing a thick line it produces a split pair of thin lines because the ink flow to the nib was not good enough for it to put down such a thick line.

Which pen is a better work horse -every day writing on cheap printer paper? I write agreements in courts and can't control the paper quality.
@stusantos95048 жыл бұрын
Roberto Reyes I agree with Peter. Go for the Asian Fine or Extra Fine. You might not be able to have control over your paper choice but you can always opt for a nib which will spew out less ink. You might also want to experiment with your inks in order to lessen bleed through and feathering but you have to sacrifice drying time and since you are dealing with court documents, you have to be extra careful since these inks are liable to smudge.
@peterjpuleo41338 жыл бұрын
I think Noodler's has some inks that are fast drying, non-feathering, and permanent in black.
@ador.anomie828 жыл бұрын
Peter J Puleo I'm a bit hesitate with Noodlers ink, due to, their history of damaging feeders
@peterjpuleo41338 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have heard this before but in my experience it is a "bum rap". I have used many varieties of Noodler's with no problems. I might not use it in a piston filler or a vintage pen. For those, I might stick to Waterman or Parker. Opinions vary of course.

Great video, I just got a Justus 95 and i really like it, however I've been reading some stuff online about how the Justus nib is not meant to be flexed... i got this pen in particular so i could play around with flexing the nib, do you find that this comments about the Justus not really having a flexible nib are true? should i be worried about damaging the nib when trying to get the most out of he soft setting?

I own a falcon specifically for drawing, but I think If I were selecting for writing. I actually prefer more feedback in a drawing nib than I do in a writing nib. Also, in my drawing, while I want line variation I don’t need the extreme and abrupt variation that pointed nib calligraphy calls for.

April Buchwald Seriously and here I was thinking that the sound was too loud. A good example of the impossibility of making every one happy no? Great review. Just bought a very scratchy pilot 78 with a soft fine nib. The pen is good but it needs some work done. Had I seen this review at the time, no doubt i would buy the Justus.

I have the Soft-Extra-Fine Pilot Falcon with rhodium trim and it skips way too often. The irony is I have an old Namiki Falcon with a Soft-Fine nib in the raw 14k gold look and it writes even when making a fast and long stroke. I am not sure why the new Pilot Falcon nib is a failure - - having owned it beyond the return date my option is to send it to a nibmeister for a possible flow and nib adjustment. I notice from your review on the Pilot pens with the FA nib that their designs are really made for the short strokes given the design of Japanese characters. I have struggled with the Pilot 823 with an FA nib only to resolve the issue by exchanging the pen for a Fine nibbed 823 fountain pen. With the performance of my old Namiki Falcon I am rethinking the short stroke Japanese character making design point and I believe that Pilot/Namiki company is really selling pens with definite design flaws. I do not think allowing Pilot/Namiki the leniency to incorporate an intellectual purpose by suggesting their fountain pens might be made for only Japanese characters is right. The Piot Justus 95 is advertised with the pen drawing fast and lengthy lines without any railroading or skipping. I do not believe they created the new Falcon nib and the FA nib without that kind of grand performance in mind. They are over due for a makeover and their shifting to a sole "Pilot" brand name is not helping their design engineering department -- I am sure they are mismanaging their money flow with a poor business strategy. Their websites are sloppy and seem to be incomplete when covering all the pens they currently have available and it has stagnated for over many months now with this inexcusable condition. I believe their Namiki website needs to become the main website and not their new US Pilot website. The overall management at Pilot simply stinks - - it is disorganized. and unable to continue in its current state and ability in creating new and higher quality tools.

Kamil Payka Nothing wrong there. FPs are meant for everyday use and are not just reserved for Spencerian or Copperplate. You might have some misconceptions regarding FP use. If what you're after is fine writing, FPs will help only minimally. Try calligraphy channels instead. I guess, you are either a noob regarding FPs or you're just plain trolling.
