My aunt was known as the queen of stain removal. She was born and raised in Yugoslavia . After coming to America she bought an old dry cleaners which she ran and people would literally drive for hours to come to her shop with things that other dry cleaners could not get stains out of. She NEVER failed . Because of this people started bringing in all kinds of things . Figurines, pieces of furniture. Vases , lamps , you name it. People would even hire her to come to their homes to work on counters ,floors and fireplaces. When asked how she did it or what she used she always chuckled and said it was a Yugoslavian Secret. When she passed she left me her little book of secret stain removal recipes. After I looked through it I know why she chuckled . There were no secret or rare ingredients 😂 She did create some concoctions and unique ways to apply them but basically she just knew what she was doing and was very good at it 😂🤣It hasn’t failed me yet. If you can tell me what kind of surface the sharpie ink is on i might have the answer to getting it out😁

I loved that you went thrift shopping with your Mom. I use to do that with my Mom. I miss those days . She passed away 3 years ago at 97 years of age.I was blessed to have Her with me all those years. Time goes by faster as you get older. I love your comment about old baskets. I have an old one that I use at the Farmer's Markets....and I have been using it so long, that the vendors recognize me by it. When I was a little girl, my Dad had a HUGE Victory Garden (1940's) and I would bag up and sell green beans to our neighbors for $.25 per bag and walk around the neighborhood with the basket....I think I was about 7 at the time. I have been offered quite a bit for my basket, but my memories are worth more

Happy Birthday to your Mom. To your question about the oval shaped, quilted container. That was used to store your silk or nylon stockings....specifically called a hosiery box or hosiery casket. They came in other shapes for jewelry and make up, too. You are welcome! LOL

Not sure if you have tried this or not but when the kids right on the tables at school with sharpies, we use hand sanitizer. Just let it sit and soak for a few minutes. Usually gets most , if not all, of it off.
