The Hawk Family, specifically Frank Hawk, Tony's father, kept skateboarding alive in the late 80s with all the NSA vert contests all over the country and providing an arena of competition to showcase skaters abilities. It also provided a path to getting sponsored and turning pro. Frank organized em and Tony won em (except for when Jeff Phillips beat him at the nationals in Anaheim on mucho acid and got both covers of Thrasher!!)

Rogan couldn't comprehend being a world class athlete with a thin neck. Joe doesn't get that skaters need range of motion over brute strength to be in optimum form for skateboarding. Big muscles limit range of motion after a certain point.

Most skateboarding has a large population of Hard-Gainers lmao I have to stretch the hip and warm up before jumping on the board. Fighting and skateboarding are both "explosive" workouts, tears, trauma and sprains, than like say, cramping and muscle atrophy.
