@Aaron Kroll you don't need to. Like for example when I listen to a podcast where is someone from whatever professional field, let's say he is a spy or certain field scientist. There will be lingo and things that can flow by, but good interviewer stops them to explain certain things even if they know it themselves so audience who doesn't catches up. It's not a secret society but a podcast for larger audience. Also just cultural differences is something to consider why explain some more so fringe lingo to an audience. I still get it might be hard to know what to explain and what not when there is in the podcast is just people to whome it doesn't really even come to mind it might be more so a fringe thing. Because they are around same ages, lived in same places and hanged out in same sub-culture for so long.

Currently in Japan, I live in New Zealand, went to a skatepark in Tokyo yesterday for a chilled sesh. There was a guy there challenging everyone at his own accord, upping everyone (everyone including me are begginer/intermediate level), killing the vibes, he was landing things first try(nothing too extreme) but he kept doing the same line after collecting everyone else's tricks he could land. Then Kyonosuke Yamashita showed up with a crew, that guy challenging everyone left because he couldn't up him. Mad Loser vibes

He smiled at me when I was smiling at him, I think the whole Primitive team is selected very well and genuineness and humbleness are required traits to qualify. Pros gotta understand and I'm sure they do, when you get to skate and strut your stuff along side them its an honor to be skating with them. I remember going to see the Birdhouse Lexus tour in like 92 or 93 and skating vert with Tony Hawk and Steve Berra it was amazing to me. Never was trying to get sponsored or anything like that. I just wanted to show out and get a "yeah" or something.
@telefunkenyou472 жыл бұрын
Don’t apologize for skateboarding. The pros should be out there sincerely thanking each and every one of you, personally, giving YOU their time, knowledge, advice, swag from their sponsors, and most of all their gratitude. Because without you, they are just guy’s who are way too old to be playing with toys.
@coyote_21462 жыл бұрын
It is odd to see them say it’s “off putting”, I feel like the only pros who wouldn’t want to skate with any really good ams, are actually really entitled, sure they’ve done the work to get where they are, but they completely don’t care about the culture that built skateboarding, by acting like this they push people away from the sport. This is kinda just a video of them seemingly getting upset about them having their spotlight stolen.
@hellyeah38712 жыл бұрын
@@coyote_2146 I will agree with that, but how about the kids who aren't as good that just want to make the memory of skating with a pro? These pros got to realize that and how stoked kids get just being in the mix. Effectively they are the ones paying their salaries through board sales, shoe sales and so on. If they destroy the fan base it in turn hurts the pro and the sport

He 270 fs noseblunted (edit: might have been fs nb 270 - sorry we're talking 20+ years ago) the top of a picnic table from flat, and was just crushing the whole demo. I grew up between two homes, one in Ptown, one in Santa Rosa. Each town had hometown heroes, from multiple generations. The one from Ptown got on some labels, but fizzled out to booze, girls, injuries. The one from Rosa was Tony Trujillo. I remember when pros would show up to demo, by 13 Tony was already making them look amateur. No joke. He was that badass. And, he didn’t give two shits about the pros in the park, it was his park all the time and he, and everyone else, knew it. When you make Chris Senn work to show you up after he was skater of the year, and you’re only 13, you know there’s something special happening. The only pro who outdid Tony at that time was Phil Shao possibly. Tony went from being shop sponsored like the rest of us, to fully sponsored in just one summer of laying it down in front of the right people’s faces. And back then it was a click more than a meritocracy…mostly because you could only know who you knew. I’m sure many guys who were just so so talented were never ever seen just because there wasn’t Instagram. They probably ended up with 9-5’s because of wrong place wrong time. Kinda sad. I also think the guys one generation above me, sold out the sport and shat on all the rights of passage that we all had to pass through to capitalize from global kookdom. There’s an entire lost generation of hometown heroes that deserved more but that got f’d.
@MrNight-iw9md2 жыл бұрын
If you think the hometown hero is trying to “show you up” like you are in their territory, you are delusional. They probably look up to you guys so much and just want to hang and skate on your level. They are probably so hyped to be skating with the dudes he watches on video and just pushing themselves. Remember, you’ve been touring on a bus and skating all these places, and you could probably care less about the demo. To them, it was one of the most hype sessions they’ve had. One of my favorite lines is from Arian Foster who said something like "the craziest part of the NFL is that everyone there was probably the best player on their team, and now theyre just part of the team, and some guys cant handle that, they're not the star anymore theyre just a guy playing football" 100% not a direct quote at all but that idea stuck with me. But at every demo there’s always locals skating during, and most of the time it’s chill especially when they’re hyping up the pros. But there’s always the one or two dudes trying that same trick you see them try all the time at the skate park, getting in the way, and it can kill the vibe.

To be honest, we use to barge demos all the time. If you can hang no one ever kicks you out. Its fun skating with pros. P.S. Sorry I showed you up that one time in Indiana Rob Roskopp, love you bro, ha.

If this video is the 9 Club's most downvoted video by ratio and/or total numbers, it's 100% deserved Hometown heroes LOVE skating with pros because they're their idols PLUS it's a chance to be known and maybe even become a pro in the near future. Quite a few legends first gained notoriety by showing up to some pro demo and showing skill and consistency. These talking heads are absolutely clueless and think everyone's salty, which is some MAJOR projection.

shit like this is why I dont like "skaters" yet still love skateboarding. Everyone is lowkey judgemental af. Like why even put second thought into other people skating the park doing their thing?

We had this kid on the gulf coast that would show up to every demo and do early grab back flip and probably do it 100 times in a row. He wasn't the hero but in his mind he was.

Andrew Reynolds was like this when he was a kid. Daewon could literally filming a part and Lil Drew would skate right in front of him. He's in quite a few old state kids in the background even though he has nothing to do with the vid. Like the original Plan B vid. He's grown up now lol.

This was an interesting perspective to hear. What a good question. Growing up in San Antonio, we didn't get a lot of demo tours that rolled through. When the Zumiez Couch tour came they had a spot duringfor the locals to have their own contest and best trick in the beginning and then the pro demo after that. That was dope. SA didn't really have the parks to support a good demo back then. Nowadays they have some good parks finally. Also, shout out to the LIBtech crew for hanging out when they came through.

@@jcsk8 so I skated from the age of 10 till 41. And then by 41 I was only skating vert because I was having so many back and hip issues. I took 3 years off and my son has gotten me back into skating recently since he started up. So I am back skating but not nearly as good as I was before but decent for a guy going on 45. Wish I could skate like I did and say 2005 but I don't think it's going to happen. But I'm having fun.

I remember at the Calgary millenium skatepark back in the day there was a guy named Mark with this giant burning cross tattooed on his chest . He would come to all the demos and basically Ollie over people no shirt and you could see this giant tattoo. If I can remember it may have had jesus on the cross burning . Acting like a total silent sniper 🤫 herk . He was a great skater but I remember being extremely intimidated by him even as a local . He seemed to come during demos to skate out of protest for the visiting skaters. It was kinda funny though.legend

I grew up in Santa Maria California. We had a lot of hometown hero’s. But one in particular was so good dude. Every single trick was perfect. Enjoy all these perspectives and stories. It’s a vibe park to park and skater to skater but don’t take it personally. Some people like to talk and some people let their skating do the talking. Some dudes are trying to prove something and some are just trying to rip next to the pros they’ve grown up watching and maybe even looked up to.
