$100k means the landlord wanted them out. Check warehouse prices in LA (even in dtown) and they are nowhere near $100K/mo. It sounds like they never wanted to commit to a lease longer than a year. It's bad business practice to do this because most landlords will raise the rent by a small percentage each year. I hope they can get another spot and build something even better.
@mickeyfinn4636
@mickeyfinn4636 7 ай бұрын
Seriously. What was he thinking? Its not like it randomly happened, rent has been rising to crazy amounts in CA for YEARS. All that rent money wasted down the drain when it could have gone to them actually owning the building or a longer contract.
@turbocateyeS475
@turbocateyeS475 5 ай бұрын
Buildings of similar size don't cost $100k a month in mortgage and utilities combined. That space should've been bought a long time ago. And if funds ever dipped they could just charge the public a little fee to come skate. Only good thing is if/when they rebuild we will get a redesigned park. The only thing that really changed were the brandings. And the park had been murdered so many times, multiple different ways, it was about time for a new setup.

Naw, it's actually a lot of countries. Something like 80% of the buildings in the world omit the 13th floor. In China they do it because the pronunciation of certain numbers sounds like other negative things like "death".
@DarwinBoys1
@DarwinBoys1 7 ай бұрын
@@WatsonatorTV I've traveled for 3 years straits in 40+ countries and never seen that somewhere else than USA and Quebec (I haven't been to China though) But man, something is 100% sure there is absolutely NOT 80% of the building IN THE WORLD who omit the 13th floor hahaha. (80% in USA alone maybe though)
@WatsonatorTV
@WatsonatorTV 7 ай бұрын
@@DarwinBoys1 I wasn't pulling numbers out of thin air and how much you have traveled is irrelevant really. Facts are facts. I just googled and that was the first thing that popped up. Not saying Wiki is a great source of information, but this is a direct quote: "Reasons for omitting a thirteenth floor include triskaidekaphobia on the part of the building's owner or builder, or a desire by the building owner or landlord to prevent problems that may arise with superstitious tenants, occupants, or customers. In 2002, based on an internal review of records, Dilip Rangnekar of Otis Elevators estimated that 85% of the buildings with Otis brand elevators did not have a floor named the 13th floor.[3] Early tall-building designers, fearing a fire on the 13th floor, or fearing tenants' superstitions about the rumor, decided to omit having a 13th floor listed on their elevator numbering.[3] This practice became commonplace, and eventually found its way into American mainstream culture and building design.[3]" The number is actually 85% for all of Otis elevators in buildings. So I lowered it a little in case Otis had different representations from other builders, but in general I would say they are a fairly good selection since they build all over the world. Not here to argue or anything, just correcting the original poster that it is NOT just an American thing and in fact has origins in Asia.
@WatsonatorTV
@WatsonatorTV 7 ай бұрын
@@DarwinBoys1 Do you have sources for your numbers? I just did some quick googling like I said so I could be wrong and would be happy to be proven otherwise. Otis has built all over the world and is the leading elevator/escalator manufacturer and their number is 85% of buildings in the world omit the floor, I said 80% but I guess I should have directly quoted and was giving some wiggle room. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirteenth_floor Again, Wiki isn't a great source but if you look at the references it seems like their research is copacetic in this case.
