Back in the day that was the second flip trick I learned behind the kickflip. It's not respected because it's ugly 99% of the time, it's too easy, and if you're gonna do a body varial like that then just do a front side flip which is a beautiful, difficult, and all-time respected trick.

The benihana in the thumbnail is the trick I always wanted to learn. Always loved how it looks. I almost learned it over a little spin at my park before I broke my arm and had to start focusing on work. So I almost never have time to skate. When I first started skating I was goofy footed, and around 12 years old these older kids told me I was pushing wrong. But instead of fixing my pushing they just changed me stance, I push the same but have skated regular footed for 15 years now 😂. Im still pretty comfy riding switch which comes in handy

Style has ALWAYS been important in Sk8boarding. Even in the 80’s Hosoi would regularly beat Hawk. Tony did tricks that were so beyond his peers but he looked bad doing them. Hosoi looked great doing easier tricks and would win contests because of it. Jeff Won Song does some of the most insane tricks ever but (to me) he looks terrible! I can’t watch him. It’s like Jaws Banged Andy Schrock and they had a sk8 baby with giant feet. Say what ever you want and Jeff’s right… people take it too seriously but… but… Style Matters.
