They did multi verse in the second season when they did the parody of original Star Trek’s Mirror Mirror. They had a bearded Cartman instead of bearded Spock. Except ‘evil Cartman’ turned out to be good. It was the episode where Stan’s mom’s ‘Aunt Flo’ came to visit!

2:10 There was a Star Trek TNG episode about this where the Enterprise encounters an ancient well known but thought to be mythological alien society called the Aldeans. They steal all the crew's children because they can't have children anymore and are dying out. Turns out their "Custodian" (a computer AI machine) just makes everything for them that they ask for and they don't know how to fix their own machines which are now falling apart because all that are left are artists and nobody who knows how to build or fix anything. They try to compensate the Enterprise with their super advanced technology in exchange but of course they're not having it. Brilliant episode, Jerry Hardin is in it.

Well to be fair we wouldn't continue dunking on woke stuff if Disney finally got the message. Nor do I think it's all Kathleen's fault but rather Hollywood itself that continues to pander as a whole. In an ideal world this episode should have made both sides come together but as we all know Disney instead got triggered by this episode and will most likely still not reverse course with their pandering. So naturally the hate will continue and all we can continue to do is just vote with our wallets, and as such their latest Marvels movie is now the newest stinker. Haven't watched a single Disney movie since the pandemic and I have no intention of watching any Disney movies next year either, what a shame...

@-Miasimon

It's kinda funny how "diverse" just means "less white". An all-black cast is apparently more diverse than an all-white cast, even if said white cast were from different European countries. But you get slapped with the "white fragility" label for saying that. I don't give a rat's ass if a protagonist is "diverse". Just make them that way from the start and make sure they're actually a character and not just exist to check that diversity box.

From an outside view it’s interesting how, after this episode aired, a bunch of outlets were... less nice to Disney/Kennedy. I think the reason this pandering started is that, in the beginning, there were movies like Pacific Rim who did really well in Asia because of some Asian cast members and its international theme. So some movies were successful because of the diversity, and as they always do with a winning formula, they go on to mass produce it and try to even artificially create outrage in order to produce free media attention. It once worked, and their egos and all the woke employees they've hired are what keep the problem going despite it all crashing.
@R3_dacted0
@R3_dacted0 Жыл бұрын
It's pretty much that. They change something core that they know will cause some visceral reaction from a portion of the audience and that will get people talking about it. It won't be positive, but it gets the news out there. And simply how the average human brain works, people would be defiant and would opt to see it themselves to see how bad it actually was. However, they've been doing this for so long that the methodology has become stale and predictable. Now when their changes get bad press, people already know what to expect and don't have that "well let me see if for myself" mentality anymore. So now not only are they left with the bastardized malformations of the franchises they messed with, but the general audience simply stopped caring about any controversies that arose and stopped going to see the movies period.

South Park as a show despite it's style of dark and offensive humor might be the most well written diverse show of the last 26 years. it has managed to take pride, war, gun laws, racism, feminism, religion, physical and mental disabilities, homosexuality, trans-sexuality , conspiracy theorists, gamers, anime, youtubers, social media, the rise of technology, as seen on tv products, trading card games, fandom's, and the list just keeps going. Sure some of the Anti-woke channels are over the top, however the more reasonable ones are trying warn people that woke pandering will destroy the things they love. I honestly can't think of many franchises that it hasn't at least damaged severely. They where right just deal with it. Have some humility, they are just asking for respect of source material for the most part and focus quality of the actual story instead of inserting diversity and calling anyone who doesn't like what you made a ist of some variety. Most of the Anti woke creators jump at a chance to talk about the things that come it that are good and are happy to not have to talk about the woke whatever. They have liked talking about One Piece, Arcane, Picard season 3, and House of the Dragon even though the changes for diversity do affect the plot just not enough to overshadow that those actors are fantastic and the rest of the show is very good.

It's not superhero or multiverse fatigue. It's bad storytelling using the last succesfull trends as a mullet to try to sell more. I think Matpat was the one that put how many hours of marvel entertainment we have each year and suddenly they tripled. You cannot maintain quality with that sudden increase. And other companies trying to joint into the moneymaking isn't helping either.

Multiverses have been a thing for the longest time, there are good MV stories that comic fans enjoy and there are bad MV stories that comic fans hate. To me it's a matter of the story telling, i truly feel that if "Everything Everywhere All At Once" was released in 2024 it would still be just as loved.
@lweaver2988

technically it is, just because that's the recognizable connection within the trend. But you're right in that it's only causing fatigue because they're being done poorly. just like Franchise fatigue only became a thing after Disney got their hands on that formula and overdid it.

7:43 I feel like while there are franchises that have hopped on the multiverse bandwagon there's also a lot of things that just highlight that they have always had a multiverse.Mortap Kombat has been dealing with alternate universes and timelines since 2009. And the multiverse has always been a part of marvel and DC comics. While it can be used for plot convenience at its best and it's core it's just a way to flesh explore different possibilities with characters and the word at large. The problem comes in when marvel the people that have pushed the concept to the mainstream forefront haven't really been executing like they used to. You could see in the early phases we were building up and to something . Lately it's seemed a little aimless. If you have been piecing the overall story together there is a plan but I don't think it's as exciting or obvious to the casual fan.

I love this video!!!! You should comment more on the couch during Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You pointed out a lot of things, is there an algorithm like the Panderstone? Sounds like it. It's true going 1 000 0000 % one way on a topic does not bring reconciliation. However it did take people like Nerdrotic and the Friday Night Tights crew to sound the alarm. Why didn't we see all three main characters together? (I was hoping to see them escape in a shoutout) Why was C3PO's arm red, why did the millenium radar array rectangle instead of round like the original ? The prequels were there to phase out legacy characters. Done well, they would have heroically passed the baton. Changing a character or object by a certain % meant Disney got the revenues when using them not Lucas. That's the " game" being played. And we the fans just wanted to see our old heroes back. So both sides were portrayed , Disney really really needs to change course, tell good stories enough with the intersectional woke stuff.

Completely agree on the multiverse fatigue and I think you're one of the few youtubers that acknowledge this because I've seen some Marvel youtbers believe the issue is just that we haven't really got actual or enough multiverse yet and we're taking too long. And that Secret Wars and Deadpool 3 will be awesome. But I'm actually very skeptical now and would rather they just fucking got around to making their own Xmen and F4 once and for all instead of the multiverse just so they can cash in on legacy characters. I liked the idea back when Marvel still showed promise and you could expect them to do better than Fox, but now that it's gone to shits I rather they just try to get their shit together instead.

Bro. I hate multi verses. I think they suck in the comics and they suck in movies.

@@MrAdamloring1985 A point well made: Multiverse Stories have existed in the Comics as well ... where they also sucked. It's nothing but references and cameos to other things where story and characters really take a back seat.

This one felt a bit like the writers were buying into the bandwagon themselves a bit at times. While the industry likes to chase trends and can poorly handle subjects, that's nothing new, but trying to present it as just one group of fans getting swept up in the chaos and the studio's reacting in kind, feels like it fails to acknowledge that those so called "fans" live by irrational hostility like its a goddamn life manta, and either use to obtain audiences they have no other means of gathering, or genuinely hold reactionary positions, and are literally calling for the industry to "Stop trying to include this freaks and start making films for normal people". Sometimes South Park, trying to straddle both sides of an issue doesn't always work, especially when one is clearly out to cause intentional harm.

I'm totally on board with your opinions here. I use constructive criticism instead of just being a dick about it. A creative approach instead of a destructive one... Maybe that would be a better outcome.

It's funny that they tried to make super lame versions of the main characters and yet they were all awesome. LOL I love black female Cartman, Asian Female Kenny, and Female Butters.. they were great. That is normally the type of thing that makes me super annoyed, but in a parody, it's super hilarious.

In a world where two men stand side by side, Connected by a bond, no need to hide. Eight inches of friendship, not what you think, It's the measure of trust, stronger than a link. They navigate life, facing highs and lows, Through laughter and tears, their friendship grows. Eight inches may measure more than length, It's the depth of their bond, a source of strength. Through thick and thin, they stride together, Facing storms and fair weather. Eight inches, not a physical measure, But a symbol of friendship, a lasting treasure

I liked the episode a lot, but a lot of South Park humor always comes down to "douche vs turd". It's good to highlight two sides of a debate, but pretending that every societal issue can be reduced to two equally valid viewpoints is just wrong.
@Thenormies
@Thenormies Жыл бұрын
Personally, I think the point of most South Park episodes isn’t to state that there are equally valid viewpoints on both sides every time. I think it is to state that there is always some nuance involved, but it then gets drowned out by the people on both sides who are going to bat for their team with 100,000% aggressive energy.

The weird thing tho is the ending seems forced…. It’s basically saying Disney only did this because an alternate version of KK made them when in real life it’s just Disney. I do get the whole doubling down because of the insults and complaints tho….

I disagree about the "doubling down" theory. It doesn't make any sense. When is the last time that an elite institution like Hollywood, The Music Industry, Colleges, Political Parties etc EVER decided to change their ways because somebody politely complained? Did Hollywood change when people criticized them from giving a standing ovation to a convicted child rapist (Roman Polanski) at the Oscars? No. Did Oprah stop supporting Harvey Weinstein when female actresses politely complained? No. Did the music industry change when artists politely complained about bad pay and being cheated on the little money they were supposed to receive? No. Did Harvard change when Asians politely complained that they were being discriminated against in the admissions process? No. I could keep going on listing examples for days. These elite people ALWAYS double down regardless of how much criticism or insults they receive.

Same with the Flash ( since the comic a flash of Two Worlds was published during the 50 and that is often cited as being one of the origins of Multiverse storytelling). And I'm pretty sure that the next one was 1967 Mirror Mirror produced buy desilu Studios for the original Star Trek series
