I had a stent placed in the RCA which was blocked 95% about 16 years ago. It was a fascinating procedure and I saw the blocked artery on the fluorscope screen before they pointed it out. The surgeon showed me all the equipment, guide wire etc. saying "you can touch them, it's your blood!" . I also got a before-and-after polaroid print which I use as a wallpaper on my computer to remind me not to let my cholesterol and blood pressure go as high as they did before the event. This is technology!

Good explanation apart from a few misleading information: There is a clear difference between Heart attack (MI) and Cardiac Arrest. Myocardial Infarct (Heart Attack)is Death of cardiac muscle caused by prolonged severe ischemia where Cardiac arrest is when the heart malfunctions and suddenly stops beating unexpectedly. People often use these terms interchangeably, but they are not synonyms. A heart attack is a “circulation” problem and sudden cardiac arrest is an “electrical” problem.
@TheNotedAnatomist4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree ... thanks Pradip for your insight and for watching the tutorial
@joestevenson55682 жыл бұрын
A cardia arrest can be expected. Its just when the heart stops beating/generating significant output. For any reason.
@youngswoll32 жыл бұрын
Cardiac arrest isn’t always an electrical problem, an example would be PEA (pulseless electrical activity)
@OwurakuAmofa_3 ай бұрын
@@youngswoll3it’s literally an electrical activity
@youngswoll33 ай бұрын
@OwurakuAmofa_ PEA does not have to be electrical activity related. It could look like normal sinus rhythm but you can have no pulse. So electrical activity is ok, but the heart isn’t being stimulated to pump. If it was an electrical problem like vfib or vtach, you can be shocked out of it. You can’t shock PEA. Hope that helps

Like the video, good info and pacing. As a physician I will just quickly mention that while myocardial infarction can be an etiology of cardiac arrest, the terminology ‘cardiac arrest’ is absolutely not synonymous with ‘myocardial infarction’. I see that some med students have commented so I just want to clarify that for all the clinical providers, be specific with your terminology and definitions!

Cardiac arrest is a complete arrest of the electrical function in the heart where it can't pump blood effeciently and in which causes instant death. Myocardial infarction is a blockage of one of the coronary arteries which then blocks oxygen to the heart and cause ischemia or muscle death. MIs can lead to cardiac arrest but two different things.
@wholeNwon5 жыл бұрын
Cardiac arrest actually refers to the cessation of the mechanical function of the heart and it can occur with preservation of some electrical activity. MI refers to the death of muscle due to the obstruction you described. Ischemia is not muscle death though muscle may be viable and still asystolic.
@analogsynthplayer4 жыл бұрын
wholeNwon Exactly. Thank you for clarifying that. Electrical precedes mechanical. Treat your patient, not their ekg

@TheNotedAnatomist7 жыл бұрын
You are correct ... thank-you Megan.
@wholeNwon5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure you're correct. There are autonomic nerves (sympathetic and parasympathetic) in the heart. At least 2 of the nuclei of CN X innervate the heart (? all 3). Afferent pain fibers? Myocardial ischemia and other phenomena cause pain.
