Names like Van Berg, Mott, Brothers, Wayne (The Cat) Catalano, Larry Snyder, Sam Maple, John Lively, George Maker, Pete Maxwell, early female rider Jean Maxwell and so many many more all raced in the Detroit area at either Hazel Park or the Detroit Race Course in Livonia! Late 60s and thru the 70's it was good racing back in the day. The old MOB races, Michigan owned or Bred, were the bread and butter of alot of these names. When the suto industry was good, racing was good back in the day, both runners and harness. Detroit harness racing was some of the top in the country before the Neadowlands opened! Top horse people raced in Detroit back in the day!
