Having taken care of fixed feral cats for many years, I still grieve over the loss of Artie, a gray, about five years ago. Arthur's Ride won one for Artie.

Wow! Arthur's Ride really romped! And I agree with 'Vintage' -- he did have something left in the tank. I have a soft spot for grey horses, too -- and Arthur is gorgeous! I am always enthralled with the ad for Tapit when they show it on 'America's Day At the Races." Thank you, NYRA, for posting this video of the Whitney!

Good job I hit this baby also I had a 2-3-7-11 Exacta Box I really didn't even like the heavy chalk 3H National Treasure but I didn't want him to beat me so I used him just in case 11H ran them off their feet and the 7H closed to get 2nd as I figured and cashed a nice Exacta normally I'm a Win bettor but occasionally I'll dip into other markets

I have such a soft spot in myheart for gray thoroughbreds---when I was growing up there was a gray stallion whose progeny raced & often won at Omaha's racetrack. As a child I would got watch whenever i got the chance---there was a kid's fenced area right next to the walk up to the saddling shed. Loved every minute of it. This horse looked like he had something left at the end---"Not tired yet, why are we stopping?"

If the legendary breeder Federico Tesio was correct in his assertion that gray color in Thoroughbreds is a form of skin disease, the Alcock Arabian could be considered patient zero. Every modern gray Thoroughbred traces directly back to the stallion through an unbroken line of like-colored ancestors, weaving through gray sires and dams across centuries to arrive at any gray racehorse on the end of a shank. For example, Tapit, the record-setting sire with a striking near-white coat, carries 30 generations of gray ancestors from the original source. Though the Alcock Arabian's sire line fizzled after a handful of generations, Tesio found his influence on the breed to be so great, he labeled him the fourth foundation Thoroughbred sire, joining better-known male-line cornerstones the Darley Arabian, Godolphin Barb, and Byerley Turk. Where individual traits of the three best-known foundation sires have assimilated into the general Thoroughbred gene pool, the Alcock Arabian's direct impact can be seen at any racetrack or auction.
@johnhoie-hj7cgАй бұрын
@@goosewine7663 I had not heard of the Alcock Arabian before, though I don’t doubt you. Le Sancy must be one of his descendants. Every gray thoroughbred today traces back to him.
