Today on the Rig Doctor, we meet up with Theo Katzman to build his first pro-pedalboard! With his new record released, Theo needs to recreate the album’s tones in a live context. The rig is straight forward: no switcher, no FX loop usage- just a smattering of great pedals (including the Ultraphonix HRM and the Boost!). SUBSCRIBE: kzbin.info

Hey Doc, I stumbled across a another cool Buffer that you should know about in case you don't. This is more than just a buffer. It also splits your signal if you want to do stereo or a wet/dry rig. It's the Goodwood Interfacer/Underfacer. Essentially the same unit except one has a footswitch, the other doesn't. Of course it has an iso transformer, phase switch, can sum stereo to mono L (in case your second amp goes down), also does split sum, also mutes, a dedicated tuner out, also has a non buffered input (in case a dirt/fuzz/wah does't play nice with the first buffer), it has an input and output buffer, AND the input buffer is 1M, and the output buffer is 500R!! (I emailed to ask about both impedances) I'm pretty sure I'll be putting this on my planned new board build this spring. goodwoodaudio.com/product/theinterfacer/ goodwoodaudio.com/product/theunderfacer/

I tried something like 500 delays and reverbs since the late 70s : the Boss Dm-2 is my favorite delay, the Flint my favorite reverb : you rule ! About the Boss Dm-2, I use now the Waza Craft for its custom mode : it's perfect if the loop of your amp is parallel as on the Dual Rectifier Solo Head 2 chan Revision G made from 1993 to 2000. If the loop is serial, as on the Soldano SLO or the Rectifier Revisions D, E and F (made in 1992 and 1993) you will need a line mixer. The best we have here in Europe is the Skrydstrup PL-1. If you want to choose parallel or serial, you need a Bogner Ecstasy 101A (6L6s) or 101B (EL34s). About the Flint, I use it in the loop of a Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail delay. Its gives me some David Gilmour vibe on steroids. The EHX Holy Grail Neo is OK for that recipe, but the Flint is better.

People work for him. That's why he looks more "prepared". Theo is MORE than prepared. He is SO prepared he got the money to hire a pro who can put together a pedalboard from his pedals, rather than wasting time attempting to do it himself. The moment you achieve this level, critique his mess, alright? Some great songwriter show up at my venue with no pedalboard for their pedals. I have an anti-slip mat when it's the case.
