Salutations, Matthew. I completely agree with your evaluation of Theo's actions. It's clear that he lacks the maturity to understand the moral ramifications of his dishonest behavior as well as the repercussions of his actions. His incapacity to handle issues with honesty and maturity is further shown by his habit of lying and resorting to harassment when confronted. In addition, I applaud your diligence for identifying Theo's behavioral pattern, especially his pathetic attempts to remain relevant by dramatizing and sensationalizing his actions. Sadly, he doesn't seem to understand that real credibility and actual worth come from sincere involvement and honesty rather than from staged controversy. It's clear from watching Theo's behavior that he's caught in a vicious cycle of his own creation, one in which he must use trickery and deceit to keep his audience interested. But as you correctly said, this strategy is ultimately unsustainable and will probably result in more alienation and a decline in viewing. It gives me hope to see people just like you who can still recognize the truth in the middle of the havoc that people like Theo have caused. I appreciate you expressing your viewpoint, Matthew. In a society that frequently puts sensationalism above content, it is comforting to know that there are still people who respect honesty and integrity. Regards Mads

@felixjohnson3874
@felixjohnson3874 Ай бұрын
@@kirby1225uh, hating reaction content *_is_* the popular opinion. I don't necessarily agree with the take, in fact I'd argue its flawed in all but the most absolutely egregious of cases, but its definitely not an unpopular opinion. Super casuals just don't care, but in the age "MUH STABLE DIFFUSHION IS STEALIN ARTIST JAAHBS" and "ITS MAH PHON WHY CNT I REPAOR IT EASOLY?!" righteous indignation is basically the default setting. As far as I can tll DV isn't even an extremist anti-reactor or anything, he just dislikes content that is less 'transformative'. (As fine as that is as a simple heuristic, I grow to hate it more and more as time goes on because its far more vague than most people realize) I.e. : -Hasan- Hasan's Chair 'content' bad, Mauler content good. Thats a pretty milktoast take, and its certainly not an "unpopular opinion". (PS, just because I imagine it'll start shit if I don't address it, I dislike the "transformative" metric because "transforming" content can still be lazy, add nothing, etc. and non-"transforming" content can still involve the person engaging deeply, add a fair bit, etc. but they just can't easily completely "transform" it. "Transformative" is largely a blur-word people use to avoid the question. For instance, is adding a pixelation filter "transformative"? It takes basically no effort, yet it indisputably changes the work massively. What about having an AI redraw every frame of a video in oil paint and applying an audio filter to match? Again, its transforming the work basically entirely yet takes no effort, but to some could still add to or alter it's meaning. Cover songs take a lot of effort and might add something to / change the song, yet don't meaningfully "transform" it as its still basically the same song still being played on a musical instrument. See what I mean here? People don't actually mean literally transforming the work, nor is that realistically what most people care about. Instead the word has just been used as a blurry indefinable "you'll know it when you see it", completely ignoring the actual valid nuance of the discussion. In the clear cut cases like a reaction channel that is clearly not trying and just leeching, its low effort, adds nothing, and doesn't alter the work in any meaningful way, so its a passable metric in those cases, but even using it for those cases tends to make people blind to the real nuance in cases that aren't so simple. It also makes it hard to pin a meaningful distinction between legality & morality. For instance fanart is completely moral, but its technically using the creative works of other people without permission, so strictly speaking it'd be illegal. Simplifying the discussion to just an ill-defined "transformative" axis makes it impossible to talk about those nuances as well. Some immoral actions should be legal, some actions that are moral and should be legal aren't. Randomly insulting someone is immoral, but it shouldn't be illegal just to insult someone. Its sort of like how most people don't even know about the vertical axis on the political compass. Its there; it's important; its extremely relevant; buuuut we simplified the discussion to left & right, so most people don't even know about it despite that importance.)
@kirby1225
@kirby1225 Ай бұрын
@@felixjohnson3874 Well, just because it's a popular opinion doesn't mean it cannot be controversial, but it's clear many aren't talking about it. Also DV definitively doesn't hate reaction content just because it's not transformative, that's pretty far from his main point actually. The main point is that it gives reactors an unfair advantage compared to those who actually have to do the work of making a video, thus enabling react channels to work as content farms, but with high quality content.

I've always been wary of Theo. I see him as authoritative on come aspects, but if you care about anything he says, you have to be able to back it up with second sources. I've been programming since the 80's, and writing websites since the 90's. But because I use a technology called .NET (by Microsoft), Theo would rather I die in a fire, rather than call me a peer. We've both been in the game for a long time, but from what I've seen, and the sarky comments he's made, if you venture into the world of Microsoft, you are forever damned, and exiled, and how dare you call yourself a web developer! Which is even more hypocritical, because TypeScript is a language written by Microsoft, and VSCode is written by them as well. His videos can be informative, so long as he stays in his lane. This kind of video has been really useful to me: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYLYhXljl9CCncU. But you have to keep him at arms length, and take his words with a gallon of salt.

@@RennHans You do realize that most disorders are specifically only diagnosed when the condition becomes a chronic issue in either the patient's life, or those around them, right? Somebody who is "aware" of the disorder and seeking treatment for it is very unlikely to actually have NPD, since NPD is something that is only diagnosed when the patient is so far gone that they are completely unable to see reason. They may have a lack of empathy, or poor emotional intelligence, but that does not mean that have NPD. People with NPD are typically completely unbearable to be around, and they often damage the lives of anybody around them, and especially those dependent to them. Hey Matto, I've been following your content for quite some time now, and I hear you often say that people telling lies about you without knowing the truth frustrates you. I wanted to say that you create great content, and I really enjoy your videos. Among all the negativity you encounter daily, I hope you also recognize the positive impact you have. The fact that you produce some of my favorite content (long-form entertainment) and even convinced me to turn on notifications (which I don't often do) is hopefully something many people tell you and something you should know. Sorry for my bad English, as I am not a native English speaker.

This might just be me but I don't mind the constant fighting with people to prove them wrong. I think most of the time it needs to be done and most people won't do it because they don't care about the truth as much as you do. Keep fighting with people until the mental burden is too much/ your life is affected to negatively to keep going.

i'm sure these two tweets have been compared side-by-side already, but in case they haven't: a quote tweet that speaks pure facts is capable of inciting harassment. his series of tweets misrepresenting how honey pot dealt with the situation, painting them in a bad light and tagging them explicitly, isn't?

Matt- I understand how you feel. I’m just an average Joe trying to survive in the world. I face abuse and corruption from systems that I will probably never be able to fix or change in a meaningful way. People tell me that I would have less problems if I would just shut up and do as I’m told. But that still doesn’t stop me. I believe that holding people accountable is something that just doesn’t happen as often as it should. Sure, sometimes it’s easier not to rock the boat. But I think we both know that the easy choice is rarely the best one. The day we stop caring is the day we die. Keep fighting for what you believe in.

combatting this openly does a service to combat misinformation in general, in the post-truth environment that is the internet today. It might not be what a lot of your viewers want to see, but it's in the best interest of all of us that these shenanigans don't go unnoticed.

YT recommended his channel to me a year ago, and at the time I had no interest - it's not like I don't want to learn anything new, it's that the subject matter generally is not new to me, and it's often poorly explained by people who claim or imply they're experts when clearly they are not. After a few weeks of his vids being recommended, I relented. And it was a torrent of unmitigated horseshit. So I did a rare thing: clicked on the "do not recommend this channel." A year later, I now realise why the algorithm was recommending his nonsense, and why effectively blocking it was wise. Good on you, Matt, for calling this out. I've always found these sort of dramas distasteful, and I like to avoid them, but this is truly an exceptional case, and the context you've brought has been illuminating. As long as platforms encourage foment, there will be these dickheads.

As much as people feel it's negative because you are standing up for yourself then they can choose to move on. Personally these bullies online continue to live in their own echo chamber and someone needs to say something at least once to break down their delusion. There's always 2 sides to a story, this is giving the other side not drama content. You keep standing on what you believe sir, I'll be here to enjoy the ride and support with a view, a like, and a comment.
