My senator is amazing and I worked in a congressional Constituent Services Office and the amount of people he and all the caseworkers helped is unreal. But of course that never makes the news. There are amazing legislators who do a really thankless and low paid job. So if people could stop being ignorant and really start paying attention it would help.
