JLC is so much value for the money. I really want a Reverso at one point. But they do have so many other beautiful pieces. The Master Ultra Thin Date in pink gold is just perfect. And the Master Control Date you had in the video there is gorgeous. The black dial on the Moonphase is stunning. Nice video. Keep up the great work.

I'm proud to own one of the very first Master Control's. A '90's Master Grande Taille, 37mm, on JLC bracelet (a masterful work of art in itself). It was the first JLC to ever receive the 1000 hours control certification. A beautiful little piece of history! Thanks for this video Christian.

Great video Christian, it's refreshing to see you be honest about which pieces resonated and which didn't. Critical but fair. I think JLC are really starting to push themselves. My perception is that they kind of lost their identity a bit by trying to provide too many options to too many people.

I've enjoyed wearing my 1943 JLC Cal 470 for the last 30 years - I bought it when I was 18 in 1990. I took one look at the gold plated mechanism and had to buy it! The 1940's was the peak decade for hand made watches, they are price engineered now... I like the discreet design with Arabic numerals and blued hands and simply 'LeCoultre' on the dial. It is also smaller than modern designs at 32mm and 9mm thick. It used to gain only one second a week, but it needed a new spring a few years ago and requires bringing to time again.
@stephencopestake28643 жыл бұрын
@Wiki Park Mine isn't a US model - it is an RAF issue watch - definitely signed Jaeger Le Coultre inside - it is a standard movement in a plain case. It still keeps very good time long term, maybe +/- 0 seconds over 6 months, but day to day it is less good.
@sanghoonlee51715 жыл бұрын
JLC is such a great company. It hasn't been granted a place in the Swiss trinity only because its entry-level watches aren't expensive enough. A damn silly reason, if you ask me. JLC really should take AP's spot.
@johnnyguitar66975 жыл бұрын
The Master Collection was much more nicely proportioned when they were around 37mm in diameter. The only exception I'd make is the sector dial one, as the concentric circles make it look visually smaller. Definitely my pick of the current line.

Fantastic video Christian. One of your best. As a younger watch enthusiast, this is the JLC model line that's always been front and center to me. I enjoy the Reverso line as well, but the Master Control seems more contemporary. The line is so good that I can't decide which one I'd like to go with. The MC date has always hovered near the top of my list because it seems to be the most versatile; sort of a sportier dress watch. I feel like the Arabic numerals along with the slight lume plots and being a little bit thicker makes it sportier. Great modern size at 39mm too.
@davidofglenbrook44875 жыл бұрын
I owned the Master Control Date. It was nice but to be honest, a little dull and flimsy. If you’re going to get the MCD, get it in gold. Getting it in gold will add a little ‘zing’ and heft to the piece, which I felt it genuinely needed.

Totally disagree about that ultra thin date... I think that clean symmetric dial looks friggin amazing. Although it might look better with a gold case and markers
@James-hb6ee4 жыл бұрын
The Ultra Thin for the win all the way. It is really more of a dress watch than a sport watch. Of course, I am older and more conservative. :) The reason the sector dial watch is less expensive is due to the printed dial as opposed to the applied markers on the other watches. Still, it's a nice looking watch.

Hey Christian and the T&H team here’s a question for you guys. So a way back I commented about have trouble with an AD and I finally got my Rolex OP 36 white dial about a week ago and I’ve been trying to find out how I can get a jubilee bracelet for it. Any ideas? (Also if JLC made a “bland” dial with no complications it’d be the perfect dress watch imo)

Thanks for doing a video on these watches. I'm a pretty "fly under the radar" type of watch lover and I've been considering the Master Control Date. My question is do you think the Master Control Date has the ability to be dressed down to something near a daily wearer? It does come with a bracelet option which appears a bit more casual. Thanks for considering my question.

MUT moon in silver is the hands down winner. The blue seconds hand matching the moon phase background is exquisite. Although the black is nice the moon phase doesn’t work as well aesthetically. The gold rotor also gives this movement view something special. The power reserve model has too much going on. And the rest are just too plain. The silver moon phase is just so. The only downside is that it’s not a versatile piece. Way too dressy for T shirts and jeans. It has to be worn with formal attire. Great watches overall though something for everyone in this segment of the market. Only knock I’ve ever read on the moon phase is the textual radial flop which drives some OCD watch geeks nuts. I’ve had the silver and black side by side and there’s only one winner.
@bobbydazzler17804 жыл бұрын
Radial flip:) By the way for those who don’t want to spend JLC money right now but like the dressy vibe try on the Tissot Gentleman powermatic. Similar minimalist design vibe but at a fraction of the price. This could also be your gateway piece to JLC just to see whether a watch with this look is right for your lifestyle.

I think the sector dial has just been usurped massively by the latest Longines sector dial release. The first model you showed is too busy and pointless. The moonphases are OK but I'd go for a more limited edition version with some "extra" bling.... the model with the date at 6, yeah dates at 6 suck. Dates at 12/center are the best IMHO. But from this selection, my fave is the "conservative" master control date with the date at 3 - it works very nicely. You should have shown the sector dial chronograph!
