I have family that has left IFB as well. That is a very legalistic and shaming group of people. I bet very few believe in the gospel. Most those folks trust in their self-righteousness and may not even know it.

I have to say this. I grew up in a Calvinist church and was taught the doctrines you guys are accurately showing in the Bible. Not until the last 5 years have I really began to understand thanks to faithful men like you guys. Very good explanations on so many topics. Thank you and God bless you both. Time to become a full member.

One source I read had this to say about 1 John: "Two purposes are contained here: (1) that professing believers might test themselves to see the genuineness of their faith; and (2) that true believers would be assured of their right standing with God. In these purposes John helps all *professing* believers avoid a dangerous presumption and he helps all *genuine* believers avoid a debilitating uncertainty." These two groups you've both been referring to in 1 John, would they slot in with the above concept of professing believers and genuine believers? Also, thanks again for this episode and all you brothers are doing! ~SDG

Being led by Me is what matters daily to overcome anything (your sin is nothing for Me I want to show you the New Victorious life in Christ)-that is what it means to walk as Jesus walks...that is what I have come to do, Out with the Old in with the New...it's all in the Scriptures, do not be deceive... those who have an ear let him hear. What about the person who confesses Christ, agrees that what they are doing is sin according to God, maybe even asks for forgiveness through tears, and yet continues to practice that sin?

I’m just a little confused by what y’all are saying. On the one hand, you’ll say that our works only bolster our assurance but they are not the ground of our assurance, by which I think you mean if obedience/works/love/sanctification is there it provides extra assurance of our salvation (read: justification/forgiveness), but if those things are not there, so long as we believe in Jesus and agree with God about our sin, then we can have full assurance. Ie works are not necessary for assurance. However, on the other hand, you say that the person who is truly justified will be sanctified, true faith/regeneration will lead to works/obedience etc. but doesn’t that logically imply that if sanctification/obedience etc. os not there then you’re not/may not be truly saved. And if that’s the case, doesn’t that nullify the idea that you can have assurance without works/obedience/sanctification? Can you help me out with this?

Does His being an advocate for us require us to confess our sins EVERY TIIME we sin? It seems to me that, if we confess every time we sin, we are putting Him back on the cross. I know you're busy but please explain to an old simpleton. Thank you for your time.

The point of 1 John is 3 John. anti-christ had infiltrated the church at Ephesus and 1 John was his 1st attempt to get the believers to recognize this in a manner that the infiltrators wouldn't recognize. I don't think they did because he has to lay it out plainly in 3 John.

Literal translation of 1 john 1:8 If an unbeliever denies the sin then he us denying the need of the Gospel as the solution and cannot partake of the truth! In such person the Truth Jesus does not live!! It is verses to Unbelivers Literal tranlation of 1 john 1:8 The literal translation- “We may or may not continually say the same things about the sins (as God), He is continually faithful and just so that He has forgiven us the sins and has cleansed us from all unrighteousness.” or “Whether we continually say the same things about the sins (as God) or not, He is continually faithful and just so that He has forgiven us the sins and has cleansed us from all unrighteousness.”

Having studied the prologue alone for thousands of hours, and the whole Bible for over ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND HOURS......yes, people have missed the point of the prologue because of several mistranslations. An Exegetical Commentary on John's Prologue by my friend Don Smith. PART 1: JOHN 1:1 What Beginning? The Greek words translated "in the beginning" are *en archeé* which means: "at first, to begin, at the start of, to start, to commence, or commencement." In Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning" introduces the story of the old creation. In John 1:1, "In the beginning" introduces the story of the new creation. Both events are carried out by God's spoken word, but the Genesis creation is not what the writer is concerned with since the creation of the world was well established in the minds of the Jews he is writing to. John wasn't writing to Gentiles. He took no part in Paul's ministry to the Gentiles. Galatians 2:6-9. To establish the meaning behind John's use of "In the beginning" we need only to look at Mark 1:1-5; Luke 1:1; 1 John 1-6; John 2:11; John 6:64; John 15:27; John 16:4; 2:John 1:5-6. Before reviewing these verses I present the following quote from The Racovian Catechism, (Unitarian 14th and 15th centuries): QUOTE "In the cited passage (John 1:1) wherein the Word is said to have been in the beginning, there is no reference to an antecedent eternity, without commencement; because mention is made here of a beginning, which is opposed to that eternity. But the word beginning, used absolutely, is to be understood of the subject matter under consideration. Thus...John 15:27, “And ye also shall bear witness because ye have been with me FROM the beginning.” John 16:4, “These things I said not unto you AT the beginning because I was with you.” And Acts 11:15, “And as I began to speak the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us AT the beginning.” As then the matter of which John is treating is the Gospel, or the things transacted under the Gospel, nothing else ought to be understood here beside the beginning of the Gospel; a matter clearly known to the Christians whom he addressed, namely, the advent and preaching of John the Baptist, according to the testimony of all the evangelists [i.e., Matthew, Mark, Luke and John], each of whom begins his history with the coming and preaching of the Baptist. Mark indeed (Chapter 1:1) expressly states that this was the beginning of the Gospel. In like manner, John himself employs the word beginning, placed thus absolutely, in the introduction to his First Epistle, at which beginning he uses the same term (logos) Word, as if he meant to be his own interpreter [“That which is from the beginning…concerning the Word (logos) of life.” 1 John 1:1]. (The Racovian Catechism; Reprinted by Spirit & Truth Fellowship, pp. 63 and 64). END QUOTE. Biblical Evidence for defining "the beginning" : 1. Mark 1:1-5 *"The BEGINNING (en archeé) of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; As it is written in the prophets, “Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’” And there went out unto him all the land of Judea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins."* In Mark we have the word *archeé* 2. Luke 1:1 *"Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who FROM THE BEGINNING (en archeé) were eyewitnesses and ministers of the Gospel, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully FROM THE BEGINNING (en archeé), to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught."* In Luke we have a reference to people who, FROM THE BEGINNING (en archeé) were eyewitnesses to Jesus' ministry, and were also ministers of the Gospel. 3. John 2:11 *"This BEGINNING (en archeé) of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.* 4. John 6:64 *“For Jesus knew FROM THE BEGINNING..." (en archeé). 5. John 15:27 *"And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me FROM THE BEGINNING."* (en archeé) 6. John 16:3-4 *"These things they will do because they have not known the Father or Me. But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you AT THE BEGINNING (en archeé), because I was with you."* 7. 1 John 1:1-3 *"That which was FROM THE BEGINNING, (en archeé) which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched--this we proclaim concerning the word of life (the Gospel). The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life (the Gospel), which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ."* 8. 1 John 2:13-14 "You have known him FROM THE BEGINNING (en archeé)." 9. 1 John 2:24 "As for you, see that what you have heard FROM THE BEGINNING (en archeé) remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father."* 10. 1 John 3:11 *"For this is the message that ye heard FROM THE BEGINNING (en archeé), that we should love one another."* 11. 2 John 1:5-6 *"And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had FROM THE BEGINNING (en archeé) . I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard FROM THE BEGINNING, (en archeé) his command is that you walk in love."* CONCLUSION: "In the Beginning," in the above verses, refer to the "Beginning of the Gospel and the NT Age which begins with John the Baptist's and Jesus' ministries." Christians of the first century would have understood John 1:1 as referring back to "the beginning of Jesus' ministry," including John the Baptist's ministry of preparing of the way for the Messiah. The quoted portion of the Racovian Catechism (above) reveals that this view of "in the beginning" (being the beginning of the preaching of the Gospel) was never lost or forgotten. God's commandment is this. Believe in the one whom he sent and you shall be saved. This is Grace. True repentance. Is a change of heart. A change from unbelief to belief. Its always been by grace. Started with grace and will end with grace. Abraham had faith and it was credited to him. Noah had faith and that too was credited to him. Those like Roy Comfort and others lie him who say now you are saved you must do this, do that, are denying the true Christ. Making them out to be liars. Calling God a liar, by not believing in his finished work. Shows they themselves are unsaved. Or been blinded by their own self rightousness. They place heavy burdens on peoples backs. The tree that bares good fruit, are those who believe and trust in finished work on the cross alone. Those branches that bare bad fruit. Are those who preach a false gospel. A false Jesus. A work based salvation. True repentance is this a change of heart from unbelief to belief. To say. Don't belie with the mind, but with your heart. Wrong. I say if you believe with the mind you are believing with the heart also. Anyone who says I stopped sinning are liars are deceiving themselves. They are denying Christ. Calling God a liar. When God looks at us he sees his son not our sins. For we dwell in this human body. All sin. But God doesn't see our sinful nature but Christ in us. When Jesus said, Go and sin no more. He was saying. Change your mind, Turn from unbelief to belief. Believe in me, alone, and you'll be saved. That's repentance. Not what these false teachers tell you. They themselves don't practice what they preach. They are the wolves that have entered the church. The true church of Jesus Christ have no denomination. For all are members of one body with Christ has the head.

1 john 1:8 You need to be honest it is not a bar soap to clense keep cleaning a believer.. 1 hohn 2:1 says our Jesus has delt with Sin forever and sat down no more advicating nor intersession!! ""The literal translation- “We may or may not continually say the same things about the sins (as God), He is continually faithful and just so that He has forgiven us the sins and has cleansed us from all unrighteousness.” or “Whether we continually say the same things about the sins (as God) or not, He is continually faithful and just so that He has forgiven us the sins and has cleansed us from all unrighteousness.” Dr john best dallas seminary also interprets the greek, " i dont know if you are ever going to come to your senses and agree with God concerning your sins, but if At any time today tomorrow when ever you should decide to turn too Him God can be dependent upon to have forgiven your sins and to have cleansed you of all unRightesness " This is given in the past tense in the context of salvation! If you ever agree with God that you have sins , if you turn to Him, if you will ever recognize that it is the case you can be the beneficiary, recipient, of the forgiveness that He has Already given to All of the world on the cross long time ago!! If you believe in what Jesus has done then you'll be saved from the condition of the spiritual death and will receive the spirit of life the Holly spirit that was lost in Adam!!
