Except for the enormous petrochemical industry that produced the mylar, the high molecular weight polyester cordage, the incredibly inefficient manufacture of carbon fiber, the epoxy resins the vacuum bag films, the foam core.......I love how naive eco-dipshits are about wind power and how great petrochemicals are. And look at how the Ocean Race prostitutes have sucked up to you and given you a reach around in this public space. Personally I think petrochemicals are the best thing mankind has EVER invented, we should be building shrines to Exxon and BP instead of demonizing them and pretending the wind provides our power.

Sugarsail1 Better to exploit the fantastic variety of molecules found in crude oil by converting it to a multitude of materials than just burn it for it‘s caloric energy. Future generations will curse us for being barbaric and terribly wasting the resources of the planet.

Give the drones more credit! I´m a helicopter pilot and trust me, those winds are pretty dangerous, and those drones are chilling lol. Awesome shots and cheap ones (One flight hour could cost between 1-3 k approx). Awesome JOB!

Oh, yes, I've done my part hiring a Jet Ranger or twenty - and I agree with you, but . .. when you are in the middle of E. Nowhere i.e. the ocean, and "ferry" time is out of the question or budget, the drone is it. The quality and professionalism is amazing!

Ever since the 70s I have loved the different versions of this race. With the introduction of the 'Drone' class to this race has opened this unknown world, that previously was only accessible to the sailors themselves..

Just incredible ! Drones are now far more agile than helicopter to perform views at sea. I am a helicopter pilot, at sea for long time and have salt in my blood. It is not necessary now to take risks with a helo to fly at a very low altitude, to get close or to overfly a sailing ship. Drones are far better than us : agile, quick accelerations and stops, overviews, and equal to the most beautiful bird at sea and in this track. Unbelievable. Congratulations to the drone pilots and the Ocean Race sailors !

Ricardo Juricic it’s unrealistic to think veterinarians would be out at sea to work on large fish or whales hit by boats. Obviously once hit they leave them to fend for themselves.... it’s shitty I bet the captains of the boats don’t aim into them, they can’t predict where the whales will surface.

It is glorious that even in the most remote of locations, due to the age of drones in which we live, we can now luxuriate in footage of some never-before-observed angles of stuff we used to be limited in seeing except from right aboard the boats. It is so good to see these boat skimming the waves with four sails deployed from an external viewpoint, unheard of in days gone by!

This video has it all. Epic sailing, inspiring music and footage of these boats, the on water equivalent of an F-1 car, powering through the water is hard to put words to. The author could not have picked music better suited to the content than Fierce" and "Marionette". The footage of Mapfre at 2:35, in particular, is spectacular. One of the very best videos ever to be presented on the Tube. Kudos to the people who put it together. As one poster commented - a work of art. There is nothing like being under sail on a beam or broad reach. If there was an Academy Award for KZbin videos this would be the winner, hands down

I believe a lot of software adjustment was made to these drones. I fly drone quite a lot and taking off at that speed in normal setup would not be possible. It costs a lot of stress to fly in such conditions. Fantastic footage, huge respect for both crew and drone pilots.

I'm 33, I've always been really into cars, motorcycles and airplanes. I was always fascinated by the old historical ships too, like viking ships, triremes, galleons and the like. Only recently I've been looking into modern sailing videos and I've fallen deeply in love with it. I wish this had crossed my path sooner. I have nowhere near the budget required to get a boat, but I pledge that as ssoon as corona is over, I'll learn to sail. Courses are cheap where I live. It's at least one step. I don't care if I might be too old, I just wanna try it. Can't believe I haven't gotten into this earlier.
