With the whole Daemon and his instructions to Blood and Cheese, he told Cheese (the Rat catcher) to kill Aemond and describes Aemond and then Cheese asks Daemon what if they don’t find Aemond and Daemon looks up at him and gives him a smirk and then it cuts away, so it wasn’t a look of annoyance and a look that says, did you not hear the instructions I just gave you, you will kill Aemond, kind of look, it was a Daemon smirk which implies a not so pleasant plan b. We don’t hear him say what plan b was but this is to not give a spoiler to the audience but later when Blood (the gold cloak) enters the room when Cheese has a knife to Helena, he said “A son for a son, he said” and so revealing to the audience what Daemon’s reply was to Cheese’s question about what they should do if they can’t find Aemond, so them killing Jaehaerys was plan b, they carried out Daemon’s orders albeit plan B not plan A because they didn’t find Aemond

They had one shot to make a kill, if Aemond wasnt in the castle (because how would they know if he was even there) they had to have a backup plan. Daemon never said "a son for a son" in the conversation we saw, so clearly he told them that after they asked if Aemond was not there.

Aemond was, if not trying specifically to kill Luke, trying specifically to frighten the younger boy and cause him physical harm (catch him and make him take out his own eye or do it for him), an action which caused Luke's death. It was not the fault of either dragon. It was Aemond who commanded Vhagar to rise into the stormy night instead of staying at Storm's End, and Aemond who urged her to follow and attack the much smaller Arrax. If Aemond couldn't foresee that Arrax, desperate to defend himself against Vhagar's assault, would spit fire and Vhagar would answer with a desire to kill, then Aemond had no business riding the great war-dragon at all. All Luke and Arrax were trying to do was get home alive...

As for Aegon, This far I do not think its a rebellion thing. He is not exactly rebellious. He looks more like a kid who did not really know his place in the world and had major insecurities. He quite likely got really unbalanced by the entire situation of being a much younger brother to a powerful sister who never showed him any love. His father was likely too old and too far away to connect with him at any meaningful level. And from his point of view, he was just watching his much older sister being cool and being next to daddy king. At the same time, he had very young mother telling him he should be king. When that translates going against his own father and sister. What might have happened is that he did not feel at home with his family and he absolutely did not feel worthy of being king. Deep down he feels like big sister should be the next boss. So...as a 2nd son (his point of view) he wanted to be cool with someone. Therefore he goes more towards common folk where he does not have all that intrigue. Once he becomes king there is a shift. Because he likes it. He likes being cool. And him wanting to say yes to everyone I think its just him wanting to be cool and loved. Deep down he is not dumb. So he can see that his mother and father want to use him for their own family scheemes. So he is just out there looking for love. Trying that the people will genuinely like him. He is at the end more like Tommen in GoT than Joffrey. He is still just a big kid without a particularly strong personality. Where his brother has a much stronger personality. Aegon is just...whatever. Given the choice he always sounded honest not wanting power. He just wants to have fun, live his life, be cool. Of course, now things might change because the death of his own son might be too personal for him. We will see.

I was waiting for this episode and it disappointed greatly. Flat, boring and the main parts - stupid. I don't now what's more unrealistic: How the royal family lives with ZERO guards, no servants near by during civil war. Helena had to run through half the castle to find another person. Or the way Helena reacted to her son getting his head hacked off. I thought they would torture her to make her comply; they just asked and she just answered which kid to kill. She didn't try screaming, begging, trying to stretch time in hopes of rescue or attacking them. That whole scene made no sense. Also, it was too simple in how Daemon found 2 men willing to risk death by torture for some gold and who were willing to kill a child. Writers blew it.

The ending is a bit different than in the book. There is a second, younger son and she has to chose between the two of them. She chooses the younger to be killed but instead they kill the older one who we see die here. But it's an ok change because I'd rather them not show the fate of the son who lived.

The laws of who inherits what is very shaky, this is more evident thanks to Queen alysanne’s widow law where a male or female cannot be disinherited from the first marriage this highly applies to rhaenyra. See this is the thing rhaenyra could’ve gone and argued with the fact that aegon is nothing but a second son regardless if baelon died eventually he did live for a while as he was born. She also could’ve mentioned that she is by all accounts more pure than alicent’s children since her mother was part Targaryen and alicent doesn’t have a drop of Targaryen blood in her. All these arguments could’ve gone in her favour and for more people to support her.

Baelon died a babe, his line cut short and before him, Aemma had several miscarriages and babies who died in their cradles. The issue you are describing took place when Jaheyrys firstborn son Aemon died, Aemon already had a child Rhaenys, still Jaehaerys went and named his second son Baelon an heir. Rhaenyra's defense of her claim is that Viserys named her his heir. The purity of her blood means nothing because Westerosi nobles tolerate the Targaryen custom of marrying within the family, they by no means condone it. And even if she would like to use it as an argument, she has weakened her own claim by having children with Harwin (not only non Targ but also not her husband).
