Whoever described him as pre bop doesn’t know their history. Maybe they’re mistaking him for his cousin Charlie Shavers.

Prebop? Probably he and Dizzy were the penultimate bebop trumpeters, no shade on Miles, Howard McGhee or Kenny Dorham but the man was as quintessential a bebop trumpeter as there ever was.
