Hmm, but does it work the other way? When I was in my 20s my mom begged me to go with her to Sam Goody to get Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys CDs because she didn't want to be "the old lady" in the record store. Now I am in my 40s and I had to investigate (and fall in love) with Billie Eilish's music (In my mother's honor) and tomorrow is the Grammy awards and I am cheering on Wet Leg for best new artist. They were just college buddies a couple of years ago so it would be neat if they won at least 1 of the 3 Grammys they were nominated for (Their album engineers are also nominated for the best non-classical engineered album Grammy.)

@@StacyMarshall-fj5mh cooorect ! This was a start of the replicating other music in the 90s . Using ALMOST the same back drop beat . Now we see todays artist steal the whole song and completly replicate it. Nate dogg nd warren G used the back drop in the 90s but Michael Mcdonald was the orginal creator in the 80 s.

Michael McDonald is a GOAT! He sang lead in one of the best bands of the 70s & 80s, The Doobie Brothers. "Takin' It to the Streets", "What a Fool Believes", and a song with James Ingram called "Yah Mo Be There" are some of my favorites. Btw, Steely Dan, Toto and other bands seemed to keep Mr. McDonald busy with backing vocals in those days.

This was Michael McDonald's first single from his first solo album. He had been a member of the Doobie Brothers band, they weren't brothers, just brothers in doobie 😉. When he joined the band, their sound changed to a more soulful sound because of his voice and he wrote the songs. I remember him saying at the time about this song, it was black radio that saved him. The white audience abandoned him with this, if it hadn't been for black radio, the song and the album would have gone nowhere. As it turns out it's a classic.
