Seconded: Absolutely breaks my heart that he has ANY ill feelings towards Bladerunner 2049. Absolutely amazing movie. Every bit as good as the first. And I don't think any other director could have done the original such justice, let alone making such an amazing film as he did.

2049 is waaaay better than the og I think. It takes the basic message from og and evolves it to something insanely deep

It's actually a thing where they release movies they think are bad at the beginning of the year, and the longer the year goes on, the better the movies usually get. Dune 2 was an exception because 1) they knew it would do well and 2) a great movie in a sea of trash will most likely bring that good movie more money. It's actually genius _IF_ it's a sequel and/or it's anticipated and you know it's a great movie.

I think the ethical pickle at the core of Civil War was best summarized by KZbinr Feral Historian: A journalist will always have a choice of what version of the truth gets reported. If you're on the ground then you get the reality of warfare but not tge reality of why the war is fought etc. There is a truth but it is too complex for any one person to convey yet that is how our media sphere is set up.

I just realized I haven't watched a single new movie in probably 2 years. Maybe longer, I can't even remember the last new release I watched. I just have no enthusiasm for the industry anymore. I hear people like y'all gushing over new movies and it all sounds so trite. There are certainly movies that pique my interest but never enough to commit to watching them for 90+ minutes. Although KZbin Shorts have just about sold me on Civil War, as every scene from that movie looks amazing.

The amount of praise a film as insulting as DVs Dune films are just tells me thhat peoples overall expectations for what makes a good movie have dramatically diminished. It was one of the most bland films visually I've seen in years. The most impressive part of Dune 2 is that somehow DV managed to make surfing on the backs of giant space worms feel mediocre. Especially when Lynch made it look so good damn epic 40 years ago without CG.
