What killed this Honda 5 speed transmission?

I had a 2007 civic. Never skipped a beat. 375k km on it before it got totalled. I only did the maintenance based off maintenance minder. Did engine mounts, blown speakers, serpentine belts and a starter.

If the transmission oil looked like that after a recent transmission oil service (and the drain plug was cleaned), it's no wonder that the transmission doesn't work. On my 2007 Pilot, the drained transmission oil always looks pretty good.

I've seen bad before but this would have to be the worst I've seen.

Have a 2007 Accord V6, owned since new. Now 183K miles / 295K kms. Original auto transmission, fluid drained-and-filled every 15K with ATF DW1. Still shifts very well, but has started to make a high pitched whining sound correlated with revs. Doesn't happen when revved in neutral. I think the transmission might be going out soon ...

I had a 1996 Acura legend US model with 360k miles and everytime front first to second gear it will hang there at 3k rpm for a while before slamming into second gear still shifted through the other gears just fine. But it blew a head gasket and tried to remove the head at home but couldn't get the manifold out cuz it hits the body. It was longitudinally mounted engine front wheel drive. Long story short the head gasket went before the transmission on it.

Have a original owner 2002 Honda accord V6 295460 miles original motor never apart, original trans, oil changes every 5000 miles synthetic, transmission fluid changes every 30,000, you can change the internal filter the size of a D battery, driver side remove fender liner 3 bolts on cover.One respray in 2018, Ice cold A/C, besides replacing struts,ball joints and exhaust, water pump, she's a good Parkway commuter car

I have an 07 Accord 3.0L with 125k mi., all I've done is simple trans D&F every ~25k mi or so. All good. Replacing the pressure switches not a bad idea too.

you are right, one off the known proble with 5 speed is that , OEM friction (clutch) when it wear out it comes and clog .. unfortuantely to change the main fitler you have to open the tran, the other filter in the hood is just a slave not the main one. not sure why honda doesnt have pan to remove and change the main fitler, there are other few fitlers on clutch pressure solenoid that gets clogged as well. other than that it is a good tran. they also have problem on torque converter going bad affter 200k which we cant complain.

I also feel like the drums for the clutches are pretty small as the internals are more like a manual transmission

How do you get it back up the ramp? Does the tow truck take it directly from the bay?

We got a bunch of guys to push it up there in to the closest spot. I still have other work to do.

I wish more manual transmission cars from Honda. I would buy a HR-V in manual. Honda battery but Timu coils. lol...

The last year for the manual HRV was 2016. And it doesn't have a hand brake. They put an electronic parking brake on it and "hill hold". Absolute yuck. I considered getting one used but gave up on the idea. I've concluded that I have to go Subaru for a late model used manual.

If you're talking about the fluid I filled with from the pump it's OEM Honda DW1 in large metal drums.

@ Exactly lol. I think around 06-07 is when Honda started taking the reliability of these 5-speeds seriously. And by the time of later Honda/Acura vehicles the transmission got super reliable. We have one in our 2011 Acura TL. Still shifts smooth and quick till this day with regular maintenance.
