Good video, Erik. I suggest the following: 1. Check the ground contact located on the lower track. It, too, may need to be cleaned. 2. Check, and clean, the lower track where the ground contact is. 3. Make sure that both contacts have enough pressure to make a good electrical contact. 4. Check the solenoid (contactor) inside the hydraulic box for loose & clean connections 5. When using a high amp load, it's normal to have a voltage drop 6. The pump motor brushes my need to be replaced. 7.. The whine may be because of: A. Bad pump. (my first guess) B. Hydraulic pressure relief valve operating due to a weak spring or restriction in the hydraulic system. C. The whine could also come from the fact that you're a Marine and Marines whine a lot. Or not. WM says to never run the hydraulics while the carriage is in motion; this could cause arcing at the contact points which will cause pitting and a bad electrical connection. Good luck Dave

Thanks, Dave. Pretty much all of the above 😉 Though the brushes are really too new (relatively) and should be good for another 2000 hrs. However, I believe we sorted it! Update coming soon 😀 On the moving carriage: Yes. In fact, you probably can see me waiting for it to stop in my videos 😉 After 7 years, I had almost no arc burns, though I did some minor ones, so clearly, I've done it without even knowing it. Oorrah!

Good video. As a new mill owner, this is good info to have available. Hope the final fix is an easy one. Staying tuned.

I had that problem with my lt 35 when it was new , move the head back a bit and it would work, I now clean the strip and the contact block periodically and make sure the block makes even contact , problem rectified . the hydraulics draws a fair amount of current , your on the right track with the voltage drop.

Thanks. I often clean the strip, too, but finally, after over 6 years, it's given me trouble. But we'll get it!

Possible a Replay on the hydraulic bad contact or resistance

Relay? Is that what you meant? I think we found it though! I'll be getting another episode of "The Old Jarheads Mill is broken" out soon! lol but first some milling 😉

why not either cut the head down on the allen wrench to fit in there and tag it for its usage, or replace the allen for a hexhead bolt?

Great idea!

Now you have me wondering about the whining sound , my hydraulics works good but I’ve had that sound from when the mill was new , I thought that was normal , gonna have to investigate now

so far testing has shown the motor rpm is not at full rpm when that happens. Test, use an Amp clamp and check amps to the motor when running, if 80amps or so all is well, if 140ish likely brushes in the motor.

No video to talk about the final fix to your hydraulics? I can't find it.
