I started a Tow truck company in 2011 and I have had every kind of Diesel truck from the big 3 and I can tell you hands down nothing even comes close to the reliability of the GM Duramax with the allison trans. The Fords were a nightmare with engine problems,one problem after another. The Dodge with the cummins the engines were okay until the bolt in the grid heater breaks and destroys the engine. The Dodge transmissions were very weak ,had replace a few and the Dodges had a bad habit of cracking flexplates especially while towing heavy loads.

The new shop is looking sharp. One thing at a time, I get it, but you might want to put on your wish list to install a couple those little round exhaust trap doors at the bottom of the garage doors and snake an adjustable exhaust hose from whatever vehicle you are working on through those openings to keep the fumes outta the shop.

Mr Bill you will be a happy fella in that GMC with the duramax! I’ve had several of them. Yes you will have issues here and there but that’s going to be the same even in a dodge! I’m sure you don’t want to hear this but bucko is right when it comes to diesels. Maintenance is key not to mention you are a GM guy. You just would not look right riding around in a Dodge all the time lol.
@darrensaunders36949 ай бұрын
Your brother is right about the cummins being easier to work on. But I'm also from Ohio and I know how hard it is to find a clean unmolested diesel truck. Personally I couldn't walk away from it because you know it's properly maintained and it's not some hillbilly race truck.
@freedomfox81839 ай бұрын
I run a tree service and we've had many of the big three diesels and currently have fords 550 with dumpbox and a Chevy 6500 to pull the chipper when you're using them to tow heavy every day of their life maintenance and breakdowns are inevitable but the new Fords seem to have the most minor engine issues nothing crazy yet but Chevy has been the least expensive to run and maintain... Gave up on dodges because the cost and transmission issues and flexplate problems it had gave me more than i had time to deal with... Traded it in on the 6500 and never looked back, but it was by far the easiest to work on and problen solve on the chevy and ford are so crammed in there I'd have to think they take the cab off when they do any kind of major work are you be taking out everything just to get at minor shit half the time ... Basically what it comes down to is what you like and what you want ... They are all nice trucks and everything has its own drawback but having over a quarter million miles already I think buying that Chevy especially since you know where it came from is the smart move for yall... Where else are you going to find that nice of a Chevy where you know the history like you do on that one...

Bucko adds humor to already very entertaining videos, him moving Molly's car was a hoot. Bucko is correct though about the Duramax diesel and being a lifelong Ford guy and an owner of a 2015 F250 Super Duty Diesel 4x4 I can verify that the Cummins by far is the easiest to work on. Being diesels they all cost a bit to repair because you can put higher mileage numbers on them than any gas engine. Is what it is but the Cummins is definitely easier to work on, older design and not as fuel efficient but is a good diesel. Looking forward to seeing what the nova can do with new powerplant. Is it going to be on boost or the bottle? Go fast and be safe. God bless you and your family and friends.

On the Cummins make sure the exhaust brake is always on either full on or automatic (both loaded or unloaded). This makes sure the vanes are used all the time and do not get build up and hang open or closed. For next time or everyone else. Geno's Garage (great place for Cummins parts not a sponsor) has a a new aftermarket actuator, stronger and no calibration needed, much cheaper than a new turbo if your is still good.

Had a hotshot company for several years. Cummins left me hanging multiple times. From the junk transmission that you can't bulletproof to the body control modules. Only issue I ever had out of my 5 Duramax rigs from 2014 to 2019 was with the DEF DPF. Absolute only issues. That 13 GMC has the most comfortable interior out of all of my trucks. Dodge was second. Duramax hands down in my opinion. Only thing you will hate on the GMC will be when the passenger side head light goes out. It is not a quick bulb change. However you guys could whip it out pretty quick. I suggest a FASS Fuel System, will help since you guys travel so much and you have no idea where your fuel will come from. Anyhow, my two cents. Love the channel and those classic muscle cars!

Bill, love your videos and watching your family race. I had a ‘18 Silverado 2500HD with the L5P 6.6L Duramax and I agree with most that this engine w/the Allison trans is the best except for one small design flaw (that stranded me twice). The injector connectors fail - not the injectors themselves but the electrical pigtail connector that plugs into the injector. GM simply did not use heavy enough gauge wire or failed to insulate the connector from the heat in the engine bay? If you go on the Duramax forum online you’ll see. The inj connectors retail for about $109 and some guys carry them when traveling. The cylinders on the drivers side fail first I believe due to heat from the turbo pipe(s)? Two failed on me at about 140-145,000 miles. The engine will miss and go into reduced power mode - bad deal if you’re states away from home and towing. I went back to a 2500HD 6.6L gasoline truck for this reason. I believe GM started putting the L5P Duramax in trucks starting in 2014 & still use that power plant today but I haven’t heard if they have fixed the inj connector problem or not. If I was buying another diesel truck I would still choose Duramax but depending on the mileage would spend the $1000 or so to replace ALL 8 injector connectors so I would know I have at least 150,000 miles or so of reliability. FYI there is a fellow that posts on the Duramax forum that tows an RV all over the country with an ‘18 Duramax and has over 400,000 miles on his truck - but he carries spare injectors connectors and posts videos on how to change them on the side of the road.
@donhorner60199 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure that vintage GMC doesn’t have that issue,just the L5P does. My son hauls RV’s and has gotten so he can replace those connectors on the road as they go bad. The CP4 injection pump is probably that gen’s main issue.

I would have liked to stay with the Ram because of fuel mileage and durability. I never had issue with my duramax but just like the Cummins better. To the ladies who watch the channel, I know it wasn't just me who rewinded the video ten times to see Francois?🤣🤣 I got to sweatin and had to turn the heat down and put on extra deodorant.🥵🤣🤣 That was a fine piece of God's grace right there.🤣 Thinking about moving to France. Just don't tell Eddie my Fiancee. 💃🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 As always, another awesome video in the books. Thanks for giving me some laughs this morning Mr.Bill. I seriously admire each and everyone of you. ♥️

Bill would be cool & make your new Garage look rustic looking if you don’t stained tongue and groove boards on the walls inside the garage. It being wood will also make it easier to hang things on on walls and it’ll cover up that spray foam insulation. Maybe your Amish buddy who framed up the garage can do you a fast but good deal on something like that. Just a suggestion. 👍🏼

Stupid autocorrect on this dang phone! I meant would look rustic looking if you “DONE” stained tongue and groove boards on the walls inside. I hate this autocorrect BS changing my words 😤

My Father bought a Duramax brand new, pulls a camper with it. Had no problems. Duramax been great for him. He's had it at least 6 or 7 yrs. Camps with it every summer. Even dailies it sometimes. Just something for ya to think about
