That’s a brilliant shed, calves will do well in there with the high roof which looks like it will create good air flow. You’ve giving myself good ideas 💡 👍

The grey round 20 teat milkbar feeders would be good in your shed. We use them and they are great.

An idea for your gates dropping like that is to add some galv steel strapping like the builders used for stiffening across the roof structure if applied diagonally to the gate it would stiffen those too.
@TheOnceADayFarmer
@TheOnceADayFarmer 2 жыл бұрын
That’s true, probably easier to get different gates but I’ll see how I go 😅

Reuse or recycling at its best Anfrew! So happy to see your new building working for you and making things easier with the calves. Lots of tails wagging and that means happy calves.

I think you would keep your feeders much cleaner if you continue to feed on the gate instead of the pulley system. I would be concerned if you have an outbreak of something, cleaning those pulley feeders would be difficult. Your calves look beautiful, and your shed is a fantastic addition.

I looked up the word chucked, which you use quite regularly. Webster dictionary Toss, throw and discard. Obviously Webster is found wanting. They are yet to discover other meanings. Example. I chucked the off cut of ply on the wall. Means utilizing the off cut of ply, to construct a rail to support the calf feeder.

Absolutely love seeing all the calves just wondering though if maybe you have some rubber matting you can put on the trailer floor to stop the calves slipping when being moved , the feeders are great but as the calves grow might be too low trial and error sweetie you’ll get it sorted hope they family is all good x
@TheOnceADayFarmer
@TheOnceADayFarmer 2 жыл бұрын
Don’t use the trailer much to move them but a rubber floor would be idea for when we do. It’s good being low, simulates the udder and it’s good for the calf 👍

Had a through about your shed you need two small gates in your calf shed so you don't have to climb over the gate to.get.into.the pens if drive our Post in the middle in the side bye you can hang a small gate of each Post to make it walkthrough
@TheOnceADayFarmer
@TheOnceADayFarmer 2 жыл бұрын
Yep would be handy but if I had a motorised milk pump I could just stand in the pens and fill the feeders 👍

Most of the farm is on the high ground with only a few low flooded paddocks. The water has drained away now with the fine weather we have had.

I had to laugh. It seems that a common thing is for livestock growers to need "wire" to make things work. LOL Actually your fancy, we use baler twine. You just needed to replace it every now and then when it was sisal twine. Heck we thought we had hit the "big" time when we switched to poly twine. LOL

Sometimes mum doesn’t have the best quality milk that the calf needs and can’t give it enough either so when we take them off we can control that to give the calf the best start to life
