Im milking 120 spring calving FR cows here in Ireland. I find it hard to believe you only make silage for your summer and only 4 bails a day for so many cows. and it mad how you allways looking for rain🤣. Keep up the videos 👍
@TheOnceADayFarmer3 жыл бұрын
Yep, try to budget on 2 bales a day through summer but I grow other summer crops as well to compliment them as well. We can get some pretty severe droughts unfortunately so always looking for that rain 😂👌 Thanks mate 👍

Your costs must be minimal compared to ours Andrew. The cost of winter housing and slurry storage is so so high and also the labour. You don't know how lucky you are.

Many dairy farms in Ontario run their cows indoors most of the year so need stored feed all year. Thanks for a nice video.

Awesome video as always Andrew. I guessed 88, so no were near. You’ve got to be happy with that amount of bales, so next big purchase, is a nice big trailer to haul those bales, what do you say to that. Loving the scenery shots, doesn’t matter were your standing, it’s always a cracking view. Thanks for sharing mate.

Not far off! A bigger trailer would be nice but can’t justify one at the moment unfortunately 👌👍

Never seen anyone bale that late in the day. Here in Indiana we have to stop at Sun set. We get such heavy dew. The moisture is just too much. And we generally can't start before noon. Well another great video good job and keep the videos coming. Have a good day.

Come to Australia where all the straw and hay baling takes place at at night and finnishs about 8am in a normal year becuase we don't moisure during the day to make good bales
@paulveenings68613 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminbauer4883 we had 3 days this year that we could bale right through the day , first time that has happened for 20 years of baling . Western Australia . 🙂

Hi Andrew how many bales to the acre did you get..we are feeding out our bales In Ireland.we get the contractor to draw in the bales with a keltic bale trailer at €60 an hour.

6.3 bales to the acre roughly, that’s a good idea 👍

Hello hi,what kind of grass your cows graze?
@TheOnceADayFarmer3 жыл бұрын
Ryegrass 👍
@johnjordan46473 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew is that your parents house in the background of some of the baling photos? The question about why don’t you have your equipment just boils down to economies of scale I guess. It isn’t massive acreage that you are making into hay or silage
@TheOnceADayFarmer3 жыл бұрын
Yep that’s exactly right 👍 Nah that’s not there’s, it’s a nice house but it’s our neighbour’s

The majority of dairy cattle in America are on cured feed year around. A lot of those never get off of concrete. It's unfortunate, but that is the way it is.
@TheOnceADayFarmer3 жыл бұрын
We don’t get winter as severe as you get so can run a grass based system 👍

You shouldn't worry about it being to wet, modern balers will eat anything and if you are feeding it over summer the juicier the better especially if you are feeding pk along with it imo I went the other way and bought all the gear so we don't use contractors for anything, for balage it means you can get it off when its at its best quality and bale it when its wilted to how you want it, but with a contractor next door and only doing a small number it wouldn't make sense... I just like been in the tractor and the satisfaction of knowing I get it done on my own (the downside is nearly burning out from the long hours tho)
@TheOnceADayFarmer3 жыл бұрын
Yep if your making lots and want that quality it’s way bette to probably have your own but like you say, takes time and man power as well 👍
