Dear ladies , thank you so much for this tutorial. After I saw your video, I bought the stones and all the instruments need it , and today I made for the first time a necklace. I love it!!! I will definitely make some for my friends for Christmas. Thank you so much!!! You are amazing teachers!! You made it so easy, even for someone like me, trying for first time.🙂 😘

Rewatched your video again for the tenth plus times and I still enjoyed it, you do make me smile and I have made my own floating necklaces and still wear them, I have had comments about them and have told whoever who has asked where I saw the video about them. (The O'Neil Sisters) on youtube. Thank you again x

I just happened upon this video and I am thrilled to see this cute easy technique. I have been trying to figure out how to do a similar look but was using a crimp bead on each side of each bead on two separate strands. Then the silver crimps tarnished and turned black! Not what I expected. 😒 This is a much better design. Thank you!! 😍

This is an absolutely wonderful tutorial! I have made 5 of these necklaces now, in all different kinds of color combinations, each one is just beautiful! Thank you for this great video. One note...I bought the EXACT wire you are using and didn't have any crimp beads small enough for the ends....so I improvised and knotted the two ends twice and slipped the knot inside the clam shell, a dab of glue and PRESTO! It works GREAT! The wire is so nice and soft and pliable and it's super easy to make a knot with it at the end!

after looking at my fishing line i think the beading line would be best for me. fishing line is difficult to work with and on the necklace shown here the small shine of wire is integral to the look of the piece. i'm going to make this for myself. ty for posting.

A couple of years ago I bought 2 HUGE Rubbermaid totes full of beads along with another BIG box of beads (with accessories, but no tools) from a friends apartment manager because the previous owner of the beads passed away. I paid about $145.00 for tons of beads, and sold some seed beads to a neighbor. I’m going to try to make some of these necklaces for Christmas presents, but make them about 22” long. Nice video!

What astounds me is that you close the clam shell loop and then open the jump ring and put it into the clam shell loop and close it. I DO NOT CLOSE THE CLAM SHELL LOOP AND OPEN THE JUMP RING. DON'T BOTHER WITH OPENING THE JUMP RING. JUST PUT THE JUMP RING INTO THE CLAM SHELL LOOP AND THEN CLOSE THE LOOP. THIS WAY YOU ARE ASSURED THAT THE JUMP RING IS AS INTACT AND AS IT CAME FROM THE PACKAGE. (I do plan to make this Floating Bead necklace using real gemstone beads and I thank you for sharing and giving us the demonstration)
@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a redundant way to do it. We show how to do it that way in case someone has the type of clamshell bead tip that has a closed loop on it. Then you need to open the jump ring to attach it. We think this would look lovely with real gemstones! J&K
@rosewoy510
@rosewoy510 7 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering why you don't slip the jump ring onto the clamshell BEFORE YOU CLOSE IT then you don't even have to open the jump ring? Excellent tutorial. Thank you.
@TheONeilSisters

Good eye, Rose. That is normally what we would do, but we wanted to show how to open and close the jump ring in case someone buys a clamshell bead tip with a closed loop. Thanks for the kind words!

Hi ladies. I keep watching this video. I love it. My biggest challenge is what to charge for my work. I have tried to keep track of prices of individual items but my head just swam. What suggestions do you have??????
@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters 5 жыл бұрын
You could make a little spreadsheet with the costs of the materials in it. Then add them up for each piece. But we think even if the materials don't cost much and it didn't take you long, if it's a great design and well made, people will pay more for it. You could look at similar items on Etsy or in catalogs like Sundance and see what people will pay for something. If you use higher quality materials, like real silver and real gemstones, that adds to the perceived value and you can try charging more. We think people don't charge enough for their beautiful handmade jewelry! Start higher and see if people will pay it! J&K

Love the details you share , I'm definitely a details person . I would love to see the video in 1080p as I can only choose 720p. I have a question about calm shell clasps . When ever I've per chased these things I've found the loop to be flimsy and I have no faith in its strength. I don't have the funds for silver which I assume is stronger. Any ideas ? I did think of trying to straighten the loop out to try and hammer it to harden it but the one time I tried it snapped of when I looped it back round again. So I'm done with ideas . Thank you in advance .

Sorry you can't see the video larger. It is shot in HD and should blow up as big as your screen. We have not had any trouble with the clamshell bead tips. Fire Mountain gems sells some that have a closed loop: www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h20b4715fn Hope that helps. J&K

With the clamshell with an open loop how sturdy are they?

Great question Angele. We haven't had trouble with the wire kinking, but you could try 29-strand instead of 7-strand. Here's a little video about bead stringing wire: runningwithsisters.com/bead-stringing-wire/ Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty

So glad you were able to make it quickly! If your beads are sliding around too much, maybe add more beads. Then they won't have room to move. Or try bigger beads. Hope that helps! J&K

So what did you do with those ends to finish the necklace? I'm confused.
@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry it wasn't clear Debra. To finish the ends, we fed the two wires into a clamshell bead tip and slid on a crimp bead. The we flattened the crimp bead about 2″ from the last bead using the chain-nose pliers. We trimmed the excess wire. Then we slide the clamshell bead tip over the crimped bead. Added a dab of bead stringing glue in the clamshell. Closed the clamshell over the crimp using the chain-nose pliers. And closed the loop on the clamshell bead tip. To add the clasp, we opened a jump ring using both sets of pliers. Slid the lobster clasp into the jump ring and slid the jump ring onto the loop of the clamshell bead tip. Then we closed the jump ring. Here's the complete written instructions on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-floating-bead-necklace/ Hope that helps! J&K

@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters 3 жыл бұрын
Those both seem pretty small so it should be okay to use them together on the same wire. Try it and see how they look. It gets weird when you use a thin wire for a large hole bead (4mm-5mm) because the bead will sag on the thin wire. And for this project the inside of the hole would show. Good luck! Jennifer & Kitty
