Why didn’t I think of that 🤦🏽♀️ So easy! Thank you! I like to make candles but it’s hard to find candle molds but the soap/candle molds are always so great!

Ive tried to do that with some soap and baking molds before too! my only thing is....is there an easier way to get the wax out of the silicone molds? should i just heavily cover it with for example olive oil on the inside before putting the wax in? Or do you use something else before pouring the wax to make it easier to remove the wax once it's dried? i always have to struggle with my silicone molds a little bit when it comes to removing them sometimes..so i figured it couldn't hurt to ask what you use to help remove your candle wax easier from the molds.

If you are having trouble getting the candles out of the molds, try putting them in the fridge for 10 minutes. That usually works. Here's a link to the complete instructions on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-floating-candles/ Hope that helps! J&K

Thank you so much for this video! I’m currently making a sculpture out of candle wax and was wondering how to approach it. Does anyone know if this method works on gel wax?
@TheONeilSisters6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! We have never used gel wax, but we think it is for container candles. Is that what you want to make? We have a few container candle tutorials on our blog. Here's one in a Mason Jar. runningwithsisters.com/easy-citronella-candle/ Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty

Could I use the double sided tape that goes on the bottom of the wick as a sealant? It sticks very well to many surfaces
@TheONeilSisters2 жыл бұрын
Hi Briana, We wouldn't risk it because the sealant is so important. If the hole isn't completely sealed, the hot wax will pour right out of the mold. If you can't find candle mold sealer, you can try using Sticky Putty like this: amzn.to/3unLRRC Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty

does the putty come off easy and is reusable? do you have a link for the putty you use?
@TheONeilSisters2 жыл бұрын
Yes the putty is removed after the candles set up. We don't recommend reusing the putty. You can use Candle Mold Sealer (like this vinewickcandle.com/shop/ols/products/vinewick-candle-mold-sealer) or Sticky Putty (which looks like this amzn.to/3Hci0zZ). Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty

If you have trouble finding the mold putty or mold sealer, you can use Sticky Putty or Poster Putty. It is like a clay you can use to attach posters to a college dorm wall. Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty

Thanks, lots of good tips. First time doing candles but I have lots of silicone molds. Intuitively I thought that's what I'd have to do, poke a hole, that's pure genius! I have lots of two part molds. Do you think I could place the wick (top) out between the two halves and just kind of bind up the bottom, what eventually will be the top? I use gauze and rubber bands now, and I've forgotten and the soap does leak through but it doesn't make a puddle. I have a small St. Nicholas The Wonderworker (2 part mold) I can try it out on, I'll just do the whole thing in a bucket anticipating a puddle. Thank you for making this video. You gave me courage!
@TheONeilSisters8 жыл бұрын
You sound very adventurous! Go for it! Not sure if the wick will work that way (hard to picture), but it's a good idea to always be prepared for leaks! Good luck!
@trustinjesus11198 жыл бұрын
The O'Neil Sisters Hiya! I watched another of your videos on the milk carton ice candle project and subscribed, I love your coil technique with the sealing putty. I've been researching about using my two part molds (I have a bunch from making soap the last 5 years) and how to run the wick through what will be the top, and worrying about possible candle wax leakage and then it just hit me. I'll run the wick through and wrap up the two part mold, I use the gauze from when I donate blood and bind the two halves nice and tight and then hold that in place with a lady's hair band, and *I'll just check it for leaks with water!* That will take all the guess work out of it! If it doesn't leak with water then I won't have to use the putty.

I tucked the wick inside the mold and battened it down with a bar clamp. I chipped off some wax from a purple scented 3 wick candle I bought at the 99cent store and my first candle was a wonderful success, a purple scented St. Nicholas The Wonderworker candle, it's sitting right next to me. Had a little trouble with heating the paraffin wax in the microwave oven. My Anchor Hocking measuring glass exploded, but I emptied all the wax out of it first and was walking away so I didn't get hurt, just a long clean up. I ordered a wax melting pot the next day.

Good job on the first one! You will love having a wax melting pot. It should work very well! J&K

The O'Neil Sisters The soy wax is a lot easier in the microwave/Pyrex glass with a melting temperature of 120-125° (to make the degree symbol hold the alt key & 0176 on the numeric keypad). I'm so appreciative of gals like you for making this video. I used your technique exactly with the putty and used a little VW Beetle (car) mold (Used the awl too) and it came out nearly perfect. The pencil I used for holding the wick (bottom of candle) left some marks. Next time I'm going to pour it a little short of the top (what will be the bottom). I'm going to experiment too with the fragrance I use for making soap, diffuser oil, and I'm also going to try and dye the wax with food coloring even though I've been told it doesn't work. They (the powers that be) said the same thing about the fragrance and the food coloring for the soap. I've been seeing the same psychiatrist for years and have been giving him soap all that time. One of the St. Nick's the food coloring faded but he kept it on his desk underneath a fluorescent lamp. The last couple soaps he put on top of his filing cabinet and they've been there for more than a year (a St. Nick & a Pumpkin Wizard dude) and they haven't faded. They look more beautiful now than when I gave them to him. Thank you, I really, really appreciate people like you. I have another KZbin channel with my soap vids, videos of soap I made and gave away (AlyssaMichelleSoap).

Can i use play dough instead?
@TheONeilSisters Жыл бұрын
Great question! We think Play Dough will melt and release when the hot wax touches it. Also, it is water-soluble, so that could be a problem too. If you can't find mold sealer, you can use "Sticky Putty" clay that is used to attach posters to walls. Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty

@TheONeilSisters4 жыл бұрын
Lol, we had to look that one up! "ASMR is a relaxing, often sedative sensation that begins on the scalp and moves down the body. Also known as "brain massage," it's triggered by placid sights and sounds such as whispers, accents, and crackles." Ha ha! We know the feeling. We call it "crafting zone" when you watch a craft video and it is somehow mesmerizing and relaxing. Enjoy! Jennifer & Kitty
