LOVED IT!!! Just went foraging for pine cones last week and hit the mother-load in the park next door to me while walking my dogs. I came across a tutorial on how to clean them of the dirt and sap. Soak them in water and vinegar solution for half an hour (weigh down with a towel on top to ensure the water vinegar solution gets to all surfaces). The pine cones will rehydrate and close up. Then heat oven to 185* and line oven wracks with foil. After drip drying the pine cones, place on the foil lined wracks and dry them out. Times vary so keep an eye on them! They will bloom in front of your eyes!

I love this! I haven't tried to paint my pine cones to look like succulents. I have to try this. I have to admit, I'm addicted to making pinecone wreaths. I used to make them with my Mom as a kid but didn't make them for a long time. Now that I have a tree that dumps pinecones on the yard year round, I make different seasonal ones now. Actually, now my daughter has started requesting wreaths from me. lol! I love this tutorial. Great Job! 😊

I did have to laugh at the thought of leaving them outside overnight for creepy crawlers to leave. Me, I would be assuming it would let creepy crawlers get into them. ;-)
@TheONeilSisters5 жыл бұрын
LOL, yes it could invite more creepy crawlers! We've really never had any trouble with bugs. They skedaddle pretty quickly after you pick the pine cones up. J&K

How do you get the pinecones to stay on that wreath?
@TheONeilSisters4 жыл бұрын
Great question! We hot glued the pine cones to the wreath then hot glued the moss in and around the pine cones. Careful if you hang the wreath in direct sunlight. The hot glue can remelt! J&K

Hi Annie, It's just acrylic paint. Ours come packaged in little inexpensive 2 ounce bottles. Here's what they look like (these are a brand we like called Folk Art by Plaid): plaidonline.com/products/category/acryliccraftpaints?category=Shop_Brand_FolkArt Hope that helps! J&K

Can't you just use spray paint isn't that a lot easier just asking I love your idea
@TheONeilSisters5 жыл бұрын
Yes Diana! But we wanted more greens, turquoises, and yellows than we could get with spray paint. Plus each can of spray paint costs about $6 or $7 but each bottle of craft paint costs just $1. We liked having more colors for less money. :) J&K
@Pfrazier433 жыл бұрын
Just a thought, if you leave the cones outside you may get some creepy crawly that say, "Oh look a new apartment complex. Get the kids, honey, we're moving to a new apartment." Just a heads up. That's how I got a Wolf Spider that had a 11/2in leg span. Either he moved in or he ignored the eviction notice.
@TheONeilSisters3 жыл бұрын
Yikes! We recommend storing them outside for a little while to give any bugs a chance to skedaddle. You can also freeze them. Here's the how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/faux-succulent-wreath/ Happy Crafting, Jennifer & Kitty

It's not for everyone! Lol! We enjoyed handpainting them. Kind of Zen. But you could spray paint them instead. Cheers! J&K

🤣 Leaving them on the sidewalk for the creepy crawlers crawl away. I don’t think it works that way. It’s best to collect them in a bag and let them dry out for a year in your garage for instance. Not just for insects but due to the sap. Even still this was just about the only video on YT I could find on making succulents out of pine cones.
