As a barbering student I was taught to scissor cut working in vertical sections going around the head, which took me ages. That was until I watched your video and saw you using the scissor over comb horizontal refining method. It blew my mind and from there on i practiced this technique over an over. Now I don’t mind doing scissor cuts and I passed the course! So thank you for your KZbin content.

Very great step by step, and going over the fundamentals. I’m a barber and I love doing scissor cuts and I just wanted to watch this for the sake of seeing a different method than I use, and this is what I do and is as good as it gets. A true gem and you’re giving it away for free bravo.

Love your work brother. This skill disappeared in my town within a few short years. As a 52 yo professional male seeking a clean scissor cut, all ‘stylists’ do today is ask which # guard before seeing how fast they can get you out.

Fairly long, but the best thing to do is send the video to your barber and ask if they can do it for you.

If you have any free time from the kids, the Reuzel folks do this all the time. Check out a video or 2 from them if you haven't already. Good explanation of over-direction.

Awesome video, thank you! I'm gonna attempt to cut my partners hair and I'm wondering, you did the compound overdirection on the left side because I didnt see when you did it? I saw when you did that cut on the right side but it looked like you cut the top and then went right to the finishing touches. I need to make sure to do the compound overdirection on both sides then right?

yes that is correct, I often don't show both sides in my videos because it can get repetitive, but the process is the same both sides

Overdirection is boss! Love to use this technique. I'm not so concerned with removing points as the hair usually stays back. Like the haircut overall, though I think it is too short around the ears, especially the whitewalls at back. But great work. You make it look simple!

It's best to do the right and left side then the top. I sometimes only show one side in videos because the video can get a bit long winded if I show both sides.

If I want to finish a scissor cut fast, I scissor over comb bottom to top first and then blend the parietal ridge to the top last

Bottom to top works too. I just prefer top to bottom as the weight is taken from the top working down which means I'm not working into the hair up above

I have a very specific question. I cut my nephews hair (he’s 6) and he does not like to sit still so I only have so much time. I usually use a #3 guard on the back and sides and have to use a #8 on top for speed. How can I connect the two quickly? There is such a large gap that I normally try to connect by cutting with scissors, but it never looks great. Any advise is appreciated!
