Ok dockey. I have had my Wahl "multi-cut" (Made in ILLINIOS) clippers since the mid 1980's I have cut many haircuts for my 2 wives, and my son and the 3 stepkids, as well asmy own and my Dad's hairr too. Now that I am older, with my 3rd partner I have cut her hair many times too, but today when I went to cut my beard and hair, the useless thing was leaving huge shafts of leng hair behind. I trued four times to shave my beard before I finally gave up in disgust. OK so I have NEVER cleaned it past a few flicks with the wee brush (long since departed my sight) and NEVER ever, have I been keen on pulling it apart, as parts & I don't go back together. Thus it was delightful to watch your video,showing me EXACTLY what to do. Now I do have all the differen screwdrivers, including the torx security with the wee hole in the middle. So I set too Nowhere near as difficult as your one, to pull apart as the mechanism is basic, no little spring in the head, etc etc, just the cutters and a tongue on the armature arm, for the sliding cutter. I AM ASSUMING, that now that I have liberally sprayed it with 5-56 CRC and used it's powerful jet gas, to blow away things, whilst the liquid was handy to loosen and wipe away with a paper towel, leaving theparts well lubricated. Now, to go back and finish my beard shave with the # 2 clip-on (I have the standard set's 1-4 clips, but bought a # 8 from the local barber a while ago, to "slice down" my partners very thick hair, to try and thin it, without removing too much and that worked a treat. Me? I'm an electrician by trade and a patented inventor of "gadgets" so the mechanics of cleaning and reassembly wasn't a problem . It is the doing things when I'm too retired that takes the time ;-)

I took my clipper apart and cleaned out the hair. When I put it back together, the cutters rattled and buzzed loudly but wouldn't cut. After trouble-shooting for more than 20 minutes, I came here to find out what was going on. I finally saw you put the spring back and I thought, 'Spring? What spring? Then, I looked in the bin next to me and saw a spring that had spung out while I was taking it apart. Five minutes later (and two zaps since I had the back off and the clipper still plugged in!) I had it back together and humming smoothly, ready for my next haircut. Thank you, sir!

So I was at a hairdresser supplier and the old guy told me that if you buy the dog clippers by Wahl they’re exactly the same but just branded for pets. I still have them to this day and they were the best value for money for clippers! I have a newer set now but the old ones are still functioning perfectly. All Mains powered, easy to fix, simple design.

Great vid, thx. I have a cheap Babyliss, almost identical procedure. I suggest a small amount of silicone grease on the rotating pin and lightly oil all moving parts. The rechargeable batteries are also easy replace when they stop holding charge. If you don’t have a compressed air gun just give it a good blow to get rid of the stuff the brush doesn’t reach.

Compressed air would make it easier to remove debris from the cavities. Even one of those keyboard cleaner cans. Submerging clippers that are plugged into an electrical outlet would not be good. I enjoy the channel. I have been cutting my hear for about 5 years now but have learned a lot from you.

I heard one go and thought the other came OUT of the other whole in the side, so I when I was putting it together again I kept putting the springs into those holes which was hard and never sounded great after lol. I wasted so much $$ on new clippers these past few yrs from 2018 to 2023 on new babyliss,Gamma,SC,Cocco,Caliber,Oster and honestly I end up going back to whats works better and easier and even BETTER yes I said it Wahl makes better clipper now I do agree on using other trimmer for diff type of hair or beard but when its come to cutting hair I stick with wahl (Senior and Magic clip) its those blades that makes the cut easier and better plus the guard from wahl are 100% better than all those new brand that keep coming out

Careful about the nut in with the level bolt goes,make sure you don't loose that,and skip the part in the beginning since you'll open it rinsing it is a bit redundant and expensive when the clippercide is £10 these days,also I'd use Andis it's exponentially better quality clippercide and lubricates more diminishing the noise aswell.other than that its a great video,thanks for your time to educate.

@@theoneminutebarber I just squirted my one with CRC 5-56 as that helpe "blow away what the missus hairdryer didn't", plus as a lubricant (it's very light machine oil) it can't be beat - considering the little tube of sewing machine oil, supplied by Wahl (leaked) and made itself empty after I opened it, thus for 38 - 40 years, OF HAVING NO LUBRICANT, anything is fine. Could have even used some Sunflower "cooking" oil (for all the difference that would make?)
@johnbuell8035
@johnbuell8035 25 күн бұрын
Giving it ‘a bath’ in the beginning is not only redundant, given that you’re going to open it up anyway - it’s actually counterproductive. Once you’ve made all that hair on the inside wet and sticky, it’s harder to remove. If you skipped the bath, opened it up and blew out the dry hair with a compressed air spray, all the hair would come out much quicker and easier.

Great video. Forgot the lube. Light layer of high viscosity grease between the blades and a couple of drops of clipper oil right on the blades while clippers are running. The high viscosity grease will ensure the longevity of the clippers. Whenever the clippers start running hot, it's time to clean and lube.

@@theoneminutebarber I "did" mine after 38 years and goodness knows how many cuts, adjusting it to "rattle" and then backed off a 1/4 turn, until - oh dear no more adjustment and it still clogs and won't cut .. leaving strands all over the place. TIME TO CLEAN, was today (of all dys).. Came here to make sure I could reassemble, but actually mine does NOT have all those fiddly bits, it has the slider swipe tongue, fixed to the (extended) armature of the contactor, such that when the contactor "makes" and closes, it pulls the tip with the same front cutter as your one, to the side, and a HUGE spring inside the machine, near the fixed rear arm of the contactor, pushes it open again, with little limit switches inside, to ensure it flip-flaps side to side extremely fast. It's the hair that eventually builds up, leaving NO ROOM for the armature to "close" (or open fully), hence the zero cutting.. Also, even though I love inverting mine to close shave my chin, it too has about 1.5M that cannot be adjusted closer to the tip of the moving cutter, so I had tto fix the back plate there, although I now have a much tighter lever arm, which used to flop back and forth almost as fast as it cut side to side, meaning I put duct-tape on it long ago,to keep the base pushed BACK as far as poss.. Not any more,as that wee screw (on the side of the head for the lever) being half a turn tighter made all the differnce

@@theoneminutebarber Thanks Michael! Gave it a try and seems to be doing better. Also discovered that my model has a screw on the opposite side of the lever, which seems to somehow regulate the angle at which the inner blade moves with respect to the outter, fixed one (if that makes any sense). Hey Michael! I have a VRG V282. Is the mechanism similar to this one?

They are ok, I’ve used them and the work fine. They are not the most powerful clipper but acceptable machines

hey mate, i got an all metal set of wall clippers recently. unfortunately i accidentally washing the head under the tap. not for long but... do i need to take it apart and let it dry, or will it survive? I'm guessing it's not waterproof, and i don't do that again?

It should survive. Just let it dry and oil the blade.

What if you don’t have clippercide. Can I use a substitute?

I’m honestly not sure on that. Just remember that whatever you use will be in contact with skin. Just check it is dermatologically tested.

Bathing the unit is superfluous if you are going to take it apart and instead of prodding about get yourself a good air mains air duster and check the pressure of the armature will help.....re assemble set blades and oil well.

Mick I've actually obtained a compressor since making this video. It's been a great investment

@@theoneminutebarber Hi and thanks for the reply I bet the compressor has saved you lots of work and time plus cleaner parts as hair get everywhere.....Cleaning and maintenance is always a good policy with most things. To really do a good job on them would be to hand sharpen the blades a specific way, then strip it down and get to the armature and set the tension on it because if too slack results in poor cutting performance plus dragging the hair....too much and he blades will heat up and may stop so it is important that you get it right this one thing will make all the difference to the unit. Regards Mick

That's great insight Mick, I'm not brave enough to sharpen the blades myself, I have tried once but the good thing with Wahl clippers is the blades are incredibly durable. I wish I could say the same for the dreadful stylecraft clippers I wasted my money on.
