Turnberry has crowned three great champions during its Open Championship history.
Nick Price in 1994, Greg Norman in 1986 and Tom Watson in 1977. The 138th Open in 2009 was one of the most memorable tournaments in recent history.
Stewart Cink overcame a resurgent Tom Watson, who at 59 years old and only nine months after hip replacement surgery, came very close to winning his sixth Open Championship. Reminding everyone of the quality and passion that Watson had for the game.
Cink and Watson needed a playoff to decide a winner, with the five-time champion being bested by his younger adversary. Cink lifted the Claret Jug (his first major victory), becoming the 25th American player to win The Open.

The only person rooting for Stewart Cink to win was his mom.

Watson flushed that 8 iron on 18. Hit dead center of green! I’ve watched it over and over just hoping it will check up!

I feel so bad for Watson

Westwood should have went for the lag 2 putt instead of trying to make a 45 footer. Cost him a playoff and a great chance to win his first major. Same for Watson on the last hole. Should've just lagged it up and tapped in for the win. Golf is so mental.

Imagine how amazing it would have been if Watson won? It's a shame for Cink tbh. But Watson was unbelievable.

I almost can't watch this bc of the worst bounce in golfing history. Stewart cink is a great guy but Tom is golfing royalty. Still hurts to watch him not win this. Also I forgot westy came a 3 putt away from being in this playoff. Sad he never got his major

Play of holes were brutal. Whoever picked them.

I actually kind of like the decision by the filmmakers to gloss over Tom Watson's amazing 65 on Day 1. Anyone watching the film who DIDN'T know what happened the rest of the week would think that's really cool, but whatever, we all know he's gonna regress later, and then be absolutely blown away by the fact that he DIDN'T regress. For 71 holes anyway.

@@Lovetowinmoneyso you just expect Cink to lose on purpose and risk 1 million dollars to just let Watson win Watson wanted to win but not like that

Totally diff course now. Number 1 in Europe and can’t get an open because of a name. Scandalous
@MrAJR76

It’s not remotely scandalous. The Open can’t be held on a course with a corporate title, that’s all it is. The USGA take the same view with their US Open venues.

@@MrAJR76Not so, according to the R&A the Open cannot return to Turnberry while it is owned by Trump “for security reasons”. That’s the report for 2023, and it seems completely bogus - but that’s the stated reason.

It’s inexplicable that they wouldn’t once show the players’ scores or the leaderboard. It’s unwatchable. The USGA does a much better job uploading the US Opens.
