Thanks very much for these helpful videos. Apologies if I've missed it in other instalments, but what is it that persuades you that the harlot of chapter 17 is referring to Jerusalem?

There’s more to it than can be presented here, because the identification is supported by numerous aspects of the literary content, rhetorical structure, and, ultimately, the purpose for writing. This is not prooftexting! Rev 11:8 places the slaughter of the two witnesses in the “great city,” which is where their Lord was crucified - clearly Jerusalem. But Jerusalem is there called Sodom and Egypt - the place of gross immorality that was destroyed by God, and the place of exile of the people of God. Clearly, John is using the kind of rhetorical devices employed by the OT prophets to denounce Israel’s infidelity as God’s bride. In chapter 17, the harlot is now the “great city,” this time called the second place of exile: Babylon. The harlot is depicted as riding the beast, which is clearly Rome. Has Jerusalem ridden on the back of Rome in the context of events relevant to the literary context? Surely yes, in the Crucifixion of Jesus, where the Jerusalem authorities used the power of the Roman state (the Beast) to put Jesus to death. Peter L’s 2 volume commentary on Revelation is very good in setting interpretation of the text against the rich store of OT types, symbols, and metaphors employed or alluded to by John. There’s really no other way to understand the text!

@@DpHsHd Im sorry, but I really dont think so... its like saying that Adam is Jesus and Balam and Saul and Pilot and Judas at the same time... I think types are there for a reason... The last one standing is the New Jerusalem, as Jerusalem, as Salem as the type for the City of God! Not this clearly xenophobic nonsense!
